Nick Anderson Drawing Interest On Free-Agent Market

According to Ari Alexander of KPRC2, right-handed pitcher Nick Anderson is drawing interest from multiple clubs. Alexander noted that Alexander will likely sign a one-year deal. The 34-year-old went to the Baseball Performance Center over the offseason and added a split-change to his arsenal. Last season, Anderson logged 35 2/3 innings with the Kansas Royals. He posted a 4.04 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP with 29 strikeouts before being released in July. During the 2023 season, the right-hander posted a strong 3.06 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP across 35 1/3 innings with the Atlanta Braves. If Anderson were to find a suitor, he would likely have a role as a middle-relief option out of the bullpen and could eventually return to a high-leverage role.

Paul DeJong Linked To Yankees

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the New York Yankees have expressed interest in free agent infielder Paul DeJong. The Yankees have been in the infield market all offseason after losing Gleyber Torres to the Detroit Tigers. Over the past week, they have been linked to San Diego's Luis Arraez but have reportedly begun to lose interest. DeJong would provide a much cheaper alternative and would likely see all his time at the hot corner. Last summer, across 139 games with the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals, DeJong hit 24 home runs with a .227/.276/.427 line. Under the hood, he generated a solid 10.2% barrel rate and a 41.5% hard-hit rate. However, he struggled at the plate, with a hefty 32.4% K rate and a 4.8% walk rate. If he were to head to the Bronx, Jazz Chisholm Jr. would likely spend most of the season at the keystone.

Michael Lorenzen Marketing Himself As Two-Way Player

Ryan Hamill, the agent for free-agent right-hander Michael Lorenzen, is talking with teams that are interested in signing his client about his two-way abilities. Lorenzen, who turns 33 on Jan. 4, has not hit in a big-league game since 2021 and hasn't had more than one plate appearance in a season since 2019. Hamill is discussing with teams the possibility of getting Lorenzen the necessary plate appearances to qualify for two-way status and then flipping him to a contender that would carry him as a 14th pitcher. A player with two-way designation (only Shohei Ohtani right now) doesn't count against a team's 13-pitcher limit on the 26-man roster. Lorenzen was an All-Star in 2023 and also threw a no-hitter, and he finished with a 3.31 ERA in 130 1/3 innings in 2024 with the Rangers and Royals. The White Sox, Marlins and Rockies could be idea fits for what Hamill is proposing, but it remains to be seen if it will happen.

Royals Avoid Arbitration With Kyle Wright

The Kansas City Royals avoided salary arbitration with right-hander Kyle Wright (shoulder) on Tuesday by signing him to a one-year, $1.8 million deal for the 2025 season, according to a source. Wright will make the same salary he did in 2025 while he was rehabbing from surgery on his right shoulder. The former fifth overall pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2017 out of Vanderbilt missed all of the 2024 season and only appeared in nine games (seven starts) in his final season in Atlanta due to his shoulder injury. The 29-year-old has been throwing off a mound during the offseason and is expecting to be full go for spring training, though, giving the Royals another option for their starting rotation. However, given his missed season in 2024, he'll likely have his innings limited. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues might feel he's worth a flier in hopes he can recapture his breakout form in 2022.

White Sox Sign Dan Altavilla To Minor-League Deal

The Chicago White Sox announced on Thursday that they signed free-agent right-hander Dan Altavilla to a minor-league deal that includes a non-roster invitation to big-league spring training camp. Altavilla will stay in the American League Central heading into the 2025 campaign after making five appearances (one start) for the Kansas City Royals in 2024 in his first action in the big leagues since appearing in only two games with the San Diego Padres in 2021. In his five outings for the Royals this past season, Altavilla gave up six earned runs on five hits while walking three and striking out five in just 3 2/3 innings of work. The 32-year-old veteran hurler had a 3.51 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 41 innings in the minors at Triple-A Omaha. Altavilla will compete for a bullpen spot with the White Sox in spring training but will most likely start at Triple-A Charlotte.
