Kansas City Royals right-hander Kyle Wright (shoulder) resumed his minor-league rehab assignment and threw 13 pitches over two perfect innings with Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Sunday, according to MLB.com. Wright hasn't pitched all year while recovering from right-shoulder surgery that he had in October of 2023, and he had his rehab assignment paused due to right-shoulder fatigue. The 29-year-old had allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits while walking three and striking out five over six innings in his first two rehab starts with Northwest Arkansas before his rehab was paused. Not only has Wright not pitched at all this year, but he also didn't pitch at all in 2024, so when he is finally able to return to the Royals this year, fantasy managers probably shouldn't expect much. The former first-rounder won 21 games with the Braves in 2022 but hasn't thrown more than 38 innings in his other five seasons.

The Kansas City Royals have pulled right-handed pitcher Kyle Wright (shoulder) from his rehab assignment due to shoulder fatigue. The team noted that Wright is tentatively set to miss at least two starts before returning to action. Wright is currently on the 15-day injured list as he is working his way back from a torn capsule in his right shoulder. He missed the entire 2024 campaign but was nearing an early return to the big leagues. However, given this setback, Wright could be in danger of missing an extended period of time. Through his first six innings of rehab work with Double-A Northwest Arkansas, Wright has allowed seven hits and six runs. If the 29-year-old is able to progress well, he could be in line to return to Kansas City in early June.

Kansas City Royals right-hander Kyle Wright (hamstring, shoulder) threw four innings at extended spring training on Saturday. Wright missed all of the 2024 season due to right-shoulder surgery before suffering a hamstring strain on Feb. 18 during the start of spring training. He was placed on the 15-day injured list on March 24 and isn't expected to return to the big leagues until sometime in May. Because the 29-year-old didn't pitch at all in 2024, the Royals will surely be cautious in bringing him back, and Wright could be on an innings limit when he eventually does make his Royals debut. Outside of winning 21 games with a 3.19 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 2022 with the Atlanta Braves, Wright didn't throw more than 38 innings at the big-league level in Atlanta since debuting in 2018. It remains to be seen if Wright will even have a shot at a starting rotation spot for the Royals.
