MLive's Evan Woodbery writes that El Varon Sports is reporting that Detroit Tigers infielder/outfielder Wenceel Perez is being promoted to the big leagues on Monday. Perez also shared the news on his Instagram story on Monday morning. The club's No. 20 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has been playing the outfield in eight games with Triple-A Toledo to start the 2024 season and had gone 7-for-33 (.212) with a home run, five RBI, four stolen bases and eight runs scored in his first 37 plate appearances this year. The 24-year-old had an .890 OPS at Toledo in 35 games last year and also stole 26 bases in three minor-league stops. It remains to be seen how much Perez will actually play in Detroit, but he's at least worth a waiver-wire consideration for his speed in AL-only fantasy leagues for now.

Detroit Tigers pitcher Matt Manning allowed no hits and gave up no runs across 5 2/3 innings of work against the New York Mets on Thursday. He struck out three batters while walking four. Manning, who started the season with Triple-A Toledo, was added to the roster ahead of Thursday's doubleheader. The 26-year-old will likely return to the minors in the meantime, but he solidified himself as a go-to option for the Tigers if a spot in the rotation opens up. He offers modest streaming appeal in favorable matchups if he returns to the big leagues.UPDATE: The Tigers sent Manning back to Toledo after his solid spot start in Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored during Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader with the New York Mets. The 394-foot blast was Greene's second homer of the season. The 23-year-old has dealt with health issues over the last two campaigns but his power/speed blend gives him intriguing upside for fantasy managers. Greene has not had an electrifying start to his year, carrying a .143 average through 21 at-bats. Nevertheless, he remains a solid No. 4 outfielder with the potential to climb higher as the Tigers offense continues to seek consistency.

Detroit Tigers right-hander Casey Mize surrendered three earned runs across 4 1/3 innings on Thursday in Game 1 of a twin bill against the New York Mets. It was the former No. 1 overall pick's first start since April 14, 2022 as he underwent Tommy John surgery and ended up missing the entire 2023 season, as well. He issued two walks and struck out four on the afternoon. Mize's only full MLB campaign came in the 2021 season when he tossed a 3.71 ERA across 30 starts before making only two outings a season ago. He sports a 4.29 ERA across 39 career big-league starts but his 18.7% K% has put a damper on his fantasy value.

The Houston Astros have claimed right-hander Miguel Diaz off waivers from the Detroit Tigers. The reliever didn't crack the Opening Day roster and was out of minor league options, meaning the Tigers needed to try and pass him through waivers if they wanted to keep him in the organization. That will not be the case, however, as Diaz will join the Astros' bullpen after impressing with just one earned run allowed across 14 innings in the 2023 season with 16 strikeouts against five walks in that time. With Josh Hader in town, Diaz won't see any save opportunities but should get an opportunity after dazzling a season ago.
