Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Spencer Torkelson will get his first day off of the season in Wednesday's series finale against the hosting Houston Astros. Colt Keith will shift to first base and bat fifth, while outfielder Kerry Carpenter handles the DH duties and hits leadoff against Astros right-hander A.J. Blubaugh. Torkelson will get his first day of rest in 2025 after going 4-for-31 in his last nine games. However, the former first overall pick in 2020 out of Arizona State has provided fantasy managers with plenty of production through the first month of the season, hitting .243 (26-for-107) with eight home runs, 24 RBI, 20 runs scored and a stolen base in 30 games played. He should be back for Thursday's series opener against the Los Angeles Angels. Nobody in Detroit's starting nine on Wednesday has faced Blubaugh.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Matt Vierling (shoulder) will hopefully be ready to begin a rehab assignment pretty soon, according to manager A.J. Hinch. He's yet to play this season after suffering a strained rotator cuff in February. His rehab assignment should be expected to be on the longer side, considering he missed almost all of spring training with the injury. In 2024, he slashed .257/.312/.423 with 16 home runs, 57 RBI, 80 runs, and six stolen bases in 144 games, making him a useful fantasy player in deeper formats.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene turned in a big game in an 8-5 loss to the Houston Astros on Monday. Greene went 2-for-4 with two homers and three RBI but it wasn't enough to overpower the Astros. The veteran outfielder hit a solo shot in the fourth inning and came back with a two-run homer in the eighth. Greene is now hitting .234 with six homers, 14 runs, and 16 RBI across 111 at-bats this season. He now has three homers and eight RBI over his past seven games.

The Detroit Tigers sent right-hander Keider Montero back to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday after his spot start in a doubleheader on Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles. In his third start of the year over the weekend, Montero gave up only one earned run on four hits while walking two and striking out two in 4 1/3 innings for a no-decision. It was the 24-year-old's best start of the season against a tough opponent, but he'll now head back to the farm to serve as rotation depth for the big-league squad. Montero fanned eight hitters in five innings in his season debut on April 16 against the Milwaukee Brewers but also allowed five earned runs. He has so far been up and down in three starts in 2025 after going 6-6 with a 4.76 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 77:31 K:BB in 98 1/3 innings in his rookie year in 2024. Montero will be a streamer for those in AL-only leagues if/when he makes another start in Detroit.

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal put together an excellent performance against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. The left-hander tossed six scoreless innings, allowing four hits, and striking out 11 batters in the win. Skubal didn't have many problems during this outing as he only allowed singles and didn't walk anyone. Skubal gave up seven earned runs during his first two starts of the season, but since then he's only allowed one earned run in four starts. The reigning AL CY Young winner is one of the best pitchers in baseball and appears to be at the top of his game right now. He figures to keep the good times rolling against the Los Angeles Angels in his next start.
