2024 Team Stats

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Shelby Miller picked up his first save of the season in Monday's 1-0 win over the Guardians. Miller came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning and delivered a 1-2-3 outing with a strikeout. The Tigers' bullpen has been a mess lately, with three different relievers seeing a save opportunity in the last seven days. Jason Foley has seen the most this season but has struggled lately. The veteran Miller has struggled this season with a 5.76 ERA in 29 2/3 innings of work. Andrew Chafin has been the most effective arm out of the bullpen recently, so while fantasy managers may want to avoid the Tigers' bullpen, Chafin may be the most interesting for now.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter (back), who is recovering from a lumbar stress fracture in his back, did some light jogging on the field prior to Monday's contest against the visiting Cleveland Guardians and also played some light catch in the outfield. It's the first time that Carpenter has done any baseball activities since he suffered a setback in his recovery from his lumbar stress fracture in his spine. It's great news for the 26-year-old, but he still has a ways to go and probably won't be an option again for the Tigers outfield until some point in August. He's been on the injured list since late May and still doesn't have a clear timetable for a return. But when healthy, he should play regularly against right-handed pitching, at least, and will be worth a look as a waiver-wire pickup in mixed leagues after hitting .283 (41-for-145) with eight homers early in the year.

The Detroit Tigers placed outfielder Parker Meadows (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list on Monday with a right-hamstring strain and also optioned infielder Ryan Kreidler to Triple-A Toledo. Meadows will head to the IL after just being recalled from the minors last week. The 24-year-old went 4-for-11 with a home run and a stolen base in three games for the Tigers before getting hurt. It's a tough break for Meadows, as he was set to see decent playing time for the rebuilding club moving forward. That could still be the case when he recovers from his hamstring injury, but manager A.J. Hinch said he sees Meadows missing "a few weeks." Akil Baddoo, who was recalled from Toledo on Monday, is starting in left field on Monday and should see more playing time while Meadows is out. Justyn-Henry Mallow will be another option.

The Detroit Tigers reinstated infielder Javier Baez (back) from the 10-day injured list on Monday and also recalled outfielder Akil Baddoo from Triple-A Toledo. Baez will immediately return to the team's starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the visiting Cleveland Guardians and right-hander Gavin Williams starting at shortstop and batting seventh. Baddoo will be in left field while hitting in the eight-hole. Baez will return to Detroit after missing the last month with lumbar-spine inflammation. Despite being awful at the plate again this year, the 31-year-old should see regular starts at the 6 for the Tigers moving forward. Baez has been unplayable in mixed fantasy leagues and will return to a .183/.209/.247 slash line with just one home run and six stolen bases in 53 games in 2024.

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal gave up one run in seven innings with 13 strikeouts and no walks on Sunday against the Reds to pick up his 10th win of the season. He scattered three hits in his latest dazzling start. The left-hander lowered his season ERA to 2.37 with a 0.90 WHIP. He has struck out 132 batters in 110 innings this season. Skubal (10-3) is turning in a Cy Young-quality campaign in the first half of the season.
