2024 Team Stats

Detroit Tigers outfielder Wenceel Perez will head to the 10-day IL with an oblique strain. Veteran outfielder Akil Baddoo will take his place on the roster. Perez left the game Friday night due to soreness in his abdominal area. The severity of the injury is unknown, but a serious oblique strain could end Perez's season. The rookie has been a pleasant surprise, hitting .242 with nine home runs, 32 RBI, nine stolen bases and 49 runs scored in 378 plate appearances.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Wenceel Perez (abdomen) exited with left abdominal tightness in Friday night's game against the hosting San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. He drew one walk in two plate appearances, getting replaced by Bligh Madris in Detroit's outfield. Perez hasn't been all that fantasy relevant in 2024, but he's played a big role for the Tigers in 97 games, slashing .242/.298/.386 with nine home runs, 49 runs scored, and nine stolen bases over 378 plate appearances. The 24-year-old switch-hitter should be deemed day-to-day prior to Saturday's matchup against the Giants. If Perez isn't in the lineup for a day or two, Madris and Zach McKinstry would be in line for an uptick in at-bats, with Matt Vierling (back) nursing a back issue.

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize (hamstring) is set to start for Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday as part of his rehab assignment. This will mark Mize's second start of his rehab assignment as he threw two and a third innings on Thursday and looked solid. The 27-year-old will be set to make a few more rehab starts after that and won't be eligible to rejoin the Tigers' injury depleted rotation until August 30th. Mize posted a 4.23 ERA before hitting the injured list, driven by a subpar 6.56 ERA in May sandwich between solid months in April and June. With the Tigers out of the playoff picture, Detroit will likely ease Mize back into the rotation in September and keep him on a pitch count to preserve his health. Fantasy managers should prepare accordingly. Outside of Tarik Skubal, no other starting pitchers in Detroit's current rotation are viable fantasy options.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene (hamstring) is set to run the bases on Sunday as part of his recovery from a right-hamstring strain. This will mark the first time Greene has ran the bases since he was placed on the 10-day IL on July 26th. In conjunction with running, Greene has also been completing on-field defensive drills and is hitting daily. This marks a good sign for the 23-year-old's recovery, though no official timeline has been set for his return. Detroit has greatly missed Greene's bat, hitting for just a 71 wRC+ as a team after his last game on July 25th. Parker Meadows and Ryan Vilade have been picking up extra playing time in the outfield with Greene out, though neither is a viable fantasy option. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on Greene's status and prepare for him to return for the fantasy playoffs.

Detroit Tigers infielder/outfielder Matt Vierling (back) is absent from the team's starting lineup on Friday versus the hosting San Francisco Giants. Back spasms forced Vierling from Thursday's series finale against the Seattle Mariners early, so it shouldn't come as a big surprise that he's being held out of the series opener in San Francisco. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues will want to check back to see if the 27-year-old is feeling good enough to return to the lineup for the second game of the series on Saturday. Ryan Vilade is making the start in right field for Detroit on Friday and will hit seventh against Giants left-hander Robbie Ray. DFS gamers should be able to do much better than Vilade, who has gone 8-for-39 (.205) with a homer and four RBI in his first 15 games for the Tigers.
