Detroit Tigers right-handers Sawyer Gipson-Long (hip, elbow) and Ty Madden (shoulder) are both scheduled to throw bullpen sessions on Wednesday, according to MLive's Evan Woodbery. Gipson-Long is recovering from a left-hip labral repair and right-UCL reconstruction, while Madden is on the injured list due to a right-shoulder strain. Gipson-Long is currently on the 60-day injured list and isn't expected to be an option for the Tigers at the major-league level until around the All-Star break. Madden, who is also on the 60-day IL, is recovering after straining his right rotator cuff in spring training but will not be eligible to make his 2025 season debut until late May. The Tigers might build Madden up as a starter as he continues along in his rehab and eventually goes on a minor-league rehab assignment, but there's no guarantee he'll have a rotation spot waiting for him when he's fully healthy.

The Detroit Tigers placed catcher Jake Rogers (oblique) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with a left-oblique strain and recalled catcher Tomas Nido up from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. The Tigers also shifted outfielder Wenceel Perez (back) to the 60-day injured list to make room for Nido on the 40-man roster. Rogers lands on the IL after injuring himself taking swings before Tuesday's win over the visiting New York Yankees. Dillon Dingler, who homered on Tuesday, will now take over as Detroit's primary backstop. It's unclear if the 29-year-old Rogers will be able to return when he's eligible to come off the IL on April 18. Before his injury on Tuesday, Rogers had gone 4-for-18 with a triple, three runs scored, four walks and five strikeouts in six games played. Dingler is now on the radar for those in two-catcher and AL-only leagues.

Detroit Tigers infielder/outfielder Matt Vierling (shoulder) is hitting batting practice, completing defensive drills and doing conditioning on a daily basis and has also been cleared to start a return to play throwing program, according to MLive's Evan Woodbery. A right-shoulder strain that Vierling suffered in spring training landed him on the injured list to begin the 2025 regular season, but he's making good progress and may be able to return to make his season debut at the end of April, barring any setbacks. However, with no timetable and the fact that he still needs to go on a minor-league rehab assignment, it's probably more likely we won't see him back in Detroit until early May. Given all of the injuries to Detroit's outfielders, Vierling will probably be in line for everyday playing time in the outfield when he's ready to return.

Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers (oblique) has been scratched from Tuesday's starting lineup against the New York Yankees at Comerica Park due to left-oblique tightness, according to The Athletic's Cody Stavenhagen. Dillon Dingler will take over behind the plate to catch left-hander Tarik Skubal while batting seventh against Yankees right-hander Carlos Carrasco. Rogers came into Tuesday's game hitting .222 (4-for-18) with a triple, four walks and five strikeouts in his first six games of the 2025 season. Dingler is the only other catcher on Detroit's big-league roster, so there's a good chance we'll see Rogers land on the injured list o that the Tigers aren't short-handed at the position. Dingler has gone 6-for-19 with a homer, triple and six RBI in his first six games of the season. He has never faced Carrasco in his two MLB seasons.

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize was sharp on the mound during Monday's game against the New York Yankees. The right-hander posted six innings, one earned run, while striking out six batters in the win. It wasn't a perfect day for Mize who did allow three walks and four hits, but he was able to limit the damage during this game. Mize has allowed one earned run across 11 2/3 innings heading into his next start against the Minnesota Twins. He has done enough over his first two starts to warrant rostering in most 12-team formats heading into his next start this weekend.
