Adam Wainwright OVER 5.5 Hits Allowed
(-125, BetMGM)
Adam Wainwright is on the hill today, so you know what to do, right? Take the over on his 5.5 hits allowed prop, which has been one of our favorite bets at FTN this season. The Cardinals pitcher has coughed up at least six hits in 17 of his 20 starts this season. Wainwright has allowed 147 hits in 94 innings this season. He enters with a career-low 4.98 K/9 and a career-high 88.1% contact rate, which is the highest mark in baseball among pitchers with 90+ innings. The Cards don’t seem to care either, as they just leave him in to get rocked.
Bonus
- Astros OVER 4.5 Runs (-125, Unibet)
- Julio Rodríguez OVER 1.5 Total Bases (-105, BetMGM)
Julio Rodríguez is slashing .331/.515/.883 with a .374 wOBA and 144 wRC+ versus LHP this season. He has 27 extra-base hits since August 1. He hit .429 in August and is hitting .296 here in September. JP Sears has a 79% contact rate for his career and has been much worse at home (4.76 ERA), as his opponents are slashing .260/.314/.495 with a .344 wOBA (4.21 ERA on the road, .236/.313/.436 with .322 wOBA). Julio is too hot to ignore at the moment.
As for the Astros, this is all about John Means. It was a pretty shaky first outing for Means last week, as he allowed three runs on five hits (two homers) through five innings. He didn’t walk any batters but also didn’t strike out any. He’s known for his high fly-ball rate but had an alarming 63% fly-ball rate in his first start. He’s never been a big strikeout guy, and now he has the Astros to deal with. Means only has 13 innings on his resume over the last two seasons.
