Every week, I will break down a few moves to make to help you build the ultimate dynasty fantasy football roster and rule your leagues.
As we head into Week 7 of the season, it is starting to become clear whether your roster is destined for a deep run or needs some work. This is not as simple as a record though — remember before making a judgment on this to also consult the points for column in your league standings page. This can help you understand just where your team really stands within the landscape of the league.
Below I have broken down a few moves to improve either a contending or rebuilding roster.
Rebuilding Moves
Even amid a rebuild, there are in-season moves that can help you set yourself up for success. These moves don’t have to be massive either, the key to rebuilding is obtaining assets to set you up for long-term success. Little has changed in the landscape this week when it comes to dynasty, so remember it’s never a bad idea to acquire young assets and draft picks.
Try and Cash in on the Robbie Anderson Deal
Now two years removed from his 1,000-yard season, Robbie Anderson has fallen significantly in the minds of dynasty managers. Last season’s WR49 performance while only averaging 8.2 PPR points per week, did not help this very much. These struggles have continued this year — currently, he is the WR62 and averaging a terrible 7.5 points per game. As a result, he has yet to leave your bench most likely. With this, his value in the trade market has been nonexistent, but Monday’s trade to Arizona could change his outlook dramatically. We have seen Marquise Brown post a few quality outings over the past few weeks even within a struggling Cardinals offense. That is the role that Anderson will be stepping into now that Brown is expected to miss significant time. Some managers may have a new outlook on Anderson for the rest of the season, which is fair considering the range of outcomes. However, as a rebuilding roster holding onto a rental 29-year-old wide receiver on the roster seems counterproductive. Which makes this the perfect time to try and move him, especially while the hype is higher over the next few days.
Test the Waters on Elijah Moore
Elijah Moore was one of the most popular breakout candidates this year, even with the addition of Garrett Wilson to the Jets roster. This has not been the case thus far though — Moore is currently fifth on the team in targets with only 29 in six games, behind Wilson (48), Corey Davis (33), Tyler Conklin (32) and Breece Hall (31). He is sixth on the team in receptions (16) behind all the above players and Michael Carter. And it’s getting worse — he has three weeks in a row with fewer than five targets, including zero targets Sunday against Green Bay. The most concerning thing about this was that he did not face Jaire Alexander for most of the day, with Wilson drawing Alexander’s coverage. On the flip side of these concerns? He is only 22 years old and a second-year pro who has shown the ability to produce at a high level in the past. This makes him a perfect trade target for rebuilders, as his lack of production this season may have his manager itching for a change. This is perfect for you as you have the time to wait for him to emerge to at least the second target in the offense behind the impressive rookie Wilson.
Contending Rosters
As a contender, we know by now that the name of the game is – What can you do for me now? This is the mindset you should have as we head into Week 7, especially if your roster can handle a deep run. The waiver wire can be your best friend, but with the state of most dynasty leagues, the waiver wire is likely barren. With this in mind remember that a rebuilding roster could be a great way to acquire winnow assets.
Check in with the Darrell Henderson Manager
For a significant portion of the offseason, I have been in on Darrell Henderson — even as a 1B, I believed his ADP and value were much too low. Early on this season, he proved that with a few impressive performances including back-to-back double-digit point performances. This week we saw his value rise even more when reports came out that Cam Akers was going to miss this week, which quickly escalated to him being shut down until they work out a trade to move on from him. This has propelled Henderson into a weekly start moving forward. He may not be a weekly RB1-2, but he should be a consistent flex player for you moving forward with a few boom weeks if he falls into the end zone a couple of times. Additionally, the Rams get a bye week this week to right the ship this season. Improving the run game will be at the top of that list as they have only had one player rush for more than 50 yards in a game this season – Cam Akers in Week 3 with 61 yards. As a result, their leading rusher only has 181 yards six games into the season, which is the lowest team leader in the league. On the flip side, Henderson has finished with double-digit points three times this season on the back of 2 touchdowns and an increased role in the passing game. This makes it easy to see how his ceiling could be even higher once the Rams get right soon.
