NHL Best Bets for Thursday (1/9)

It’s time for the NFL playoffs! After a grueling 18-week season, each conference’s top seven teams have a chance to win the Super Bowl. We start with the Wild Card Round and two games Saturday that feel very different from one another.
The first game offers one of the smallest spreads of the weekend, as the Houston Texans are underdogs hosting the Los Angeles Chargers. Can C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins find the form we saw last season and defend their home turf, or will Jim Harbaugh continue to exceed expectations as the Chargers reward the market for making them favorites?
The second game features the Baltimore Ravens, a team several are picking to win the title, as almost double-digit favorites over their division rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Will the Ravens roll as expected or can the Steelers win their first game in a month on the road in the playoffs?
There’s a lot to be excited about, but nothing more exciting than the possibility of hitting a first touchdown scorer bet. Here are the guys I’ve bet on to win us some money.
Saturday Wild Card Weekend First TD Picks
Los Angeles Chargers @ Houston Texans
Quentin Johnston, WR, Los Angeles Chargers

Houston is bottom 10 in the NFL at defending opponents’ wide receivers. Johnston leads the team in targets over the past four weeks but is priced at twice the odds of Ladd McConkey. Johnston has had some struggles catching the ball, which is basically a wide receiver’s entire job, but he might be over the yips. He’s been able to corral 21 of 28 targets over the last three weeks, which is a good rate, especially given that his targets tend to come far down the field. Maybe the pressure gets to him and Johnston drops the first touchdown, but at 1200 or better, I’m betting that he keeps up the good work and catches the first six pointer.
