This is likely the last week before the playoffs in your fantasy football league, and if you are looking to waivers, there is one player who clearly stands out above the rest. But don’t stop trying to make moves until the final week of the season.
At FTN Fantasy, we have a Waiver Wire Tool that ranks the top waiver adds of the week, while also recommending the amount of FAAB you should use on each player. And every Tuesday, I’ll break down the top five players listed in the tool, giving you the best case for each highly ranked player. With all of the key injuries impacting fantasy rosters, being able to add key players off waivers is as crucial as ever.
Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week 14
1. Isaac Guerendo, RB, San Francisco 49ers
Yahoo! 11%, ESPN 1%
If you have been saving your FAAB all year long, now is your time to shine. Not only did Christian McCaffrey land on injured reserve this week, but so did Jordan Mason, paving the way for Guerendo to operate as the lead running back to end the season. In limited work this season, the rookie is averaging 5.9 yards per carry, and he could project for a similar workload that Mason saw in McCaffrey’s absence early in the season. In Weeks 1-7, Mason averaged 19.7 touches and 14.7 PPR points per contest. He also handled 60.4% of San Francisco’s rush attempts during that span, the fourth-highest rate in football. If you need help at running back, feel free to empty the budget here.
2. Jerry Jeudy, WR, Cleveland Browns
Yahoo! 45%, ESPN 69%
I shouldn’t even feature Jeudy anymore, especially after his insane 235-yard performance Monday. And yet, he’s still out there in over half of ESPN leagues, despite the fact that he leads the NFL in receiving since Jameis Winston took over at quarterback for Cleveland.
3. Gus Edwards, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
Yahoo! 17%, ESPN 54%
With J.K. Dobbins sidelined for four weeks, Edwards drew the start Sunday, rushing for 32 yards on just six carries. He logged 52% of the snaps and, perhaps most importantly, led the Chargers backfield in routes. The Chargers ran just 46 plays on offense last week, the fewest in the league, so more volume will be headed Edwards’ way.
4. Hunter Henry, TE, New England Patriots
Yahoo! 45%, ESPN 67%
Henry continues to see consistent volume from Drake Maye. The veteran tight end has seen at least eight targets in five of his last seven games, posting five top-12 fantasy finishes over his last eight contests. Since Week 6 (Maye’s first start), Henry is averaging a solid 7.3 targets, 5.3 receptions, 53.8 receiving yards and 11.4 PPR points per contest. He is also one of seven tight ends with at least a 20% target share during that span. The only problem? Henry hits his bye in Week 14.
5. Russell Wilson, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Yahoo! 22%, ESPN 43%
There are a handful of quarterbacks on bye this week, with everyone having to replace Lamar Jackson. Wilson, who is coming off a stellar performance against the Bengals, certainly makes sense. He’ll face a Cleveland pass defense that has seen 18.6% of passes against them go for 20-plus air yards, the second-highest rate in the NFL. They have also allowed seven touchdown passes of 20-plus air yards, including a 93-yard strike Monday.
