Luis Severino Spectacular On Sunday Night

New York Mets starting pitcher Luis Severino had his best start of the season on Sunday Night Baseball against the Chicago Cubs, throwing six shutout innings to pick up his fifth win of the season in a 5-2 victory. Severino was firing on all cylinders in this one, allowing just three hits and striking out ten while walking none. It was his first double-digit strikeout effort of the season and the first time he allowed no runs in a start. Some fantasy managers in deeper leagues may have given up on Severino after a bad start against the Texas Rangers last week, and he is worthy of an add in those formats. In standard size leagues, taking a shot on Severino could make sense if pitching is a need, but he will have to show this more often to become a must-roster player.

Luis Severino Moved Up To Sunday, David Peterson Pushed Back

The New York Mets have tweaked their starting rotation slightly, moving right-hander Luis Severino up to Sunday's contest at Wrigley Field against the Cubs, with left-hander David Peterson being pushed back. Severino will now get a better matchup, as he was previously slated to start against the first-place New York Yankees on Tuesday. Peterson will now likely start early next week in a tougher matchup against the Bombers. Severino allowed a season-high six earned runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out one in 6 1/3 innings his last time out against the Rangers. Overall, he's been serviceable with a 3.52 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 84 1/3 innings and 14 starts, but he's also carrying a career-low 17.4% strikeout rate. Peterson is a perfect 3-0 with a 3.97 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with only 12 K's in 22 2/3 innings over his four starts for the Mets in 2024.

Luis Severino Flirts With No-Hitter In Eight Brilliant Innings

New York Mets starting pitcher Luis Severino teased a no-hitter in Monday's 3-1 loss to the visiting Chicago Cubs, spinning eight innings of one-run ball on one hit and two walks with five strikeouts. Chicago's offense offered little to no resistance up until the late stages of the game, but Dansby Swanson's bloop single in the eighth inning broke up the no-hit bid to spoil a masterful performance out of Severino. It still added to a great start to the campaign for the 30-year-old right-hander, however, who looks revived in the early stages of the year following a strong spring training and now owns a 2.31 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 31:11 K:BB through six regular-season starts (35 innings) for the Mets. Severino will take a ton of momentum into his next scheduled start on Saturday on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays, where he'll remain worth deploying in all mixed fantasy leagues.
