New York Mets pitcher Luis Severino threw a shutout on Saturday, blanking the Miami Marlins 4-0. It was his first complete game shutout since 2018. The veteran also struck out eight batters while scattering four hits and a walk. Severino moves his record to 8-6 on the season with a 3.91 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, and 117 strikeouts in 142 innings. He will look to match this dominant effort when he faces the San Diego Padres next week on their next road trip. The Mets will continue to need strong efforts from Severino as they battle for a National League Wild Card berth with a 64-59 record.
New York Mets starting pitcher Luis Severino struck out seven Marlins in six innings and picked up the win in the Mets' 1-0 victory over the Miami Marlins on Saturday. Severino's record now sits at 7-3 and saw his ERA decrease to 3.58 on the season. Though the right-hander walked three batters, he only gave up two hits and had a minimal amount of stressful innings to deal with. With the Mets holding onto the final wild card spot in the NL, performances like Severino's on Saturday against a subpar opponent are incredibly critical. It also is unlikely for Severino to be a part of any trade discussions if the Mets are still in the wild card race come July 30th. His next scheduled start is set for Thursday when the Mets host the Atlanta Braves.
New York Mets right-hander Luis Severino turned in a quality start in his team's 6-2 win over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. Severino allowed two runs on four hits over 6 1/3 innings while striking out four and walking three to pick up the win. While the three walks weren't great to see, Severino still bounced back from a rough outing that saw him allow seven runs in his previous start. Severino heads into the All-Star break with a 6-3 record, 3.78 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 81 strikeouts over 109 2/3 innings of work. Severino has been a reliable fantasy starting pitcher this season, even though his strikeout numbers are down from previous seasons.
