PGA DFS Hot Takes for the 2025 Valspar Championship

After an unexpected severe wave split at The Players, we have what looks to be a more predictable wave advantage in DFS this week. Hot Takes will largely be about how to approach such a situation.

Course Fit: The 2025 Valspar Championship

The success that Sam Burns has had here has skewed people’s perception of what is most predictive. When Burns wins, he does so through a combination of elite iron play and excellent putting. But his baseline isn’t that of a great iron player. As a result, I think this is one of those courses where we have a particularly large edge because people get “what matters” wrong. Distance + short game works super well here, just as it typically does on difficult courses.

1. Kurt Kitayama is back

Kitayama finally corrected his awful putting last week, and with it came his best finish since the Zozo. In fact, by true strokes gained, his final round Sunday was the best round of his entire career! The ball striking hasn’t been as sharp as it can be, but it’s been consistently good. Seeing a few putts fall could give him the confidence to go nuts with the ball-striking once again.

With winds forecasted to be stronger Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, lots of the field will stack the a.m./p.m. wave. The first thing we should try to do is find under-rostered guys within this wave, and Kitayama is exactly that. If he has even his B-game, he’s one of the best players in the field.
