Commanders Open Practice Window For Austin Ekeler

The Washington Commanders announced on Wednesday that they have opened the 21-day practice window for running back Austin Ekeler (concussion) to return from Injured Reserve. It means that Ekeler can resume practicing with the team on Wednesday and will be eligible to come off IR and play in the Week 18 regular-season finale on Sunday against the division-rival Dallas Cowboys. If the 29-year-old pass-catching back is going to play this weekend, he'll need to come off IR by Saturday. It's good news for Washington's backfield, which has seen Jeremy McNichols and Chris Rodriguez Jr. get more run alongside starter Brian Robinson Jr. since Ekeler landed on IR on Nov. 30. Ekeler had been a solid RB3/flex option in PPR leagues when healthy, but he'll be a much more shaky fantasy play in Week 18 if he returns due to a potential limited workload if the team eases him back in.

Jayden Daniels, Starters To Play Against Cowboys In Week 18

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said on Monday that the team will play to win this week at the division-rival Dallas Cowboys in the Week 18 regular-season finale on Sunday. As things currently stand after their Week 17 win over the Atlanta Falcons to clinch a playoff spot on Sunday night, Washington is the NFC's sixth seed. If they can beat the Cowboys this weekend, they will stay in the No. 6 spot and travel to either the Los Angeles Rams or the winner of the NFC South (Buccaneers or Falcons). A loss to Dallas and a win by the Green Bay Packers, and the Commanders would head to Philadelphia to face the Eagles in the wild-card round. The Commanders would much rather stay in the No. 6 seed, so rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels and the rest of the starters should suit up in Week 18 for fantasy managers that are still playing for a championship.

Jamison Crowder Puts Up 25 Yards In Week 17

Washington Commanders wide receiver Jamison Crowder hauled in three of his five targets over 25 yards in Sunday night's 30-24 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Crowder has missed most of the season due to a calf injury. The veteran wideout returned from injured reserve in Week 15 and has slowly played more snaps and seen more targets in each game he has played. The three receptions were third on the team behind Zach Ertz and Olamide Zaccheaus. The Commanders clinched a playoff spot with their win in Week 17, so it is uncertain how head coach Dan Quinn will want to play things in Week 18 versus the Dallas Cowboys. Crowder's recent uptick in snap percentage and target share puts him on the WR4 map for Week 18.

Terry McLaurin Has Disappointing Showing In Week 17

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin hauled in just one of his seven targets during their victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday evening. His lone catch went for just five yards. McLaurin had a tough time getting open facing standout Atlanta defensive back A.J. Terrell who shadowed him all evening. Instead, No.2 wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus and tight end Zach Ertz did most of the damage through the air while Jayden Daniels added over 100 yards on the ground. This was only the fourth-time this season McLaurin tallied less than double-digit PPR points in a single game. Coming into this contest, the Ohio State product averaged 22.9 PPR points per game over his past four contests and found the end zone an impressive six times over this stretch. Despite the poor showing, McLaurin remains a must-start WR1 heading into a Week 18 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

Zach Ertz Scores Twice In Playoff-Clinching Victory

Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz caught six of his seven targets for 72 yards and two touchdowns in their victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night. Ertz had caught just three passes in total over his past two games but was able to snap this cold streak in a big way. The veteran tight end played a crucial role especially in the second half of this contest. Ertz found the end zone for the first time in the third quarter on a ten yard pass from Jayden Daniels. Then, the 34-year-old would play the hero as he hauled in the playoff-clinching score in overtime from two yards out. Despite his recent struggles, Ertz should continued to be viewed as a low-end TE1 playing on a high-octane Washington offense. He remains a solid play in all formats next weekend with Noah Brown (kidney) on the injured reserve as he should continue to see a reliable target share.
