Jauan Jennings Not Expected To Miss Much Time With Oblique Issue

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings (oblique) did not suit up for the preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. He was confirmed to be dealing with an oblique injury of sorts, but it's not believed to be any major injury. Jennings is only expected to miss a little time, but it's not clear how much time they expect that to be. He's been impressing in training camp so far and looks to be the leader in the position battle to get the WR3 role. In his three seasons with the 49ers so far, Jennings has caught 78 of his 127 targets for 963 yards and seven touchdowns. He's also averaging 7.6 yards per target and 21.4 yards per game. He may even see his opportunities jump depending on what happens with Brandon Aiyuk.

Brock Purdy Struggles in Preseason Debut

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy made his 2024 preseason debut in a 16-10 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday night in Santa Clara. Purdy started the game and spent the first three San Francisco offensive possessions under center before giving way to backup Joshua Dobbs. In that time Purdy produced a meager two completions on six attempts for 11 yards while taking one sack. From the beginning, New Orleans did a great job of putting pressure on Purdy, putting him in the grass multiple times. Whether observers blame San Francisco's lack of protection, Purdy himself, or credit the Saints' pass rush, it's wise not to overreact -- or react at all -- to preseason performances by entrenched starters. Purdy will look to shake off more rust when the 49ers take on Las Vegas on Friday night for their preseason finale.

Brandon Aiyuk "One Call Away" From Being Traded

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, speaking on Sunday's episode of SportsCenter, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (back) is "one call away" from being traded to the Steelers. Pittsburgh is willing to pay the wideout. However, the 49ers are hoping to keep him on the roster. While both parties have agreed to portions of a new contract, the remaining parts of the deal need to be ironed out. Aiyuk is currently labeled as a "hold-in," although head coach Kyle Shanahan reported that the receiver is also dealing with a "back issue." But the clock is ticking, with Aiyuk potentially in line to miss time if things continue to be delayed.

Israel Abanikanda Leads Team With 29 Rushing Yards

New York Jets running back Israel Abanikanda led the team with 29 rushing yards in Saturday's preseason victory over the hosting Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium. Abanikanda handled six carries in Saturday's win over the Panthers, rushing for 12 yards on his longest pickup. Abanikanda, a 2023 fifth-round pick out of Pittsburgh, should be able to make New York's roster as a third- or fourth-string back behind workhorse starter Breece Hall and rookie fourth-rounder Braelon Allen this season, but he's likely to need a number of variables to fall into his favor in order to muster fantasy relevance in 2024. Next Saturday's preseason finale in the Meadowlands against the New York Giants will be Abanikanda's final chance to establish his role on the Jets.

Mac Jones Shows Out Against Buccaneers

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones played well in a 20-7 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He completed 16 of 23 passes for 210 yards and two passing touchdowns, one in each half. Jones was 11-for -18 in the first half and was relieved by C.J. Beathard to start the second half. Jones was inserted back into the game after Beathard took some hard hits and continued his solid play. The former Patriot has the draft capital and starting experience over Beathard, which seems to give him the edge for the backup to Trevor Lawrence. If Jones officially wins the job, he still has very little value in redraft leagues, but in dynasty, he is at least worth rostering, especially in two-quarterback formats. Any value as a fantasy starter is behind him, but Jones isn't fantasy-irrelevant just yet.
