Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold (right hand) was limited during Wednesday's practice. Darnold picked up the injury after throwing an interception during Sunday's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The fact that Darnold was estimated as a limited participant and not a DNP suggests that the hand injury should not be too serious. Darnold has experienced a resurgent season as the Vikings' quarterback in 2024. He has thrown for 2,141 yards and 17 touchdowns in nine games. However, Darnold has faltered in recent weeks as opposing teams appear to be figuring him out. He has thrown six interceptions since the Vikings' Week 6 bye. He has only thrown six touchdowns in that same timeframe. Still, Darnold is the Vikings' best option so hopefully his injury does not affect him or the Vikings' skill position players too much.

It was a rough outing for the 27-year-old, who has now thrown five INTs in his last two games -- a number he reached through the team's first six outings. The Jags' defense did an excellent job limiting explosive plays and really clamped down in the red zone, holding the Vikes to field goals or less in all five opportunities. Better days are ahead for the team's offense, but they'll get another tough test next Sunday when they hit the road to take on the Tennessee Titans.

Additionally, it was the 27-year-old's first game in 2024, during which he tossed multiple interceptions. He could have had an even bigger day, but the Vikings consistently stalled in the red zone in the first half. With a juicy road matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars on tap for Week 10, the journeyman QB could again be in store for a productive performance. Jacksonville has allowed the second-most passing yards in the NFL through eight games and the second-most yards per pass attempt to opposing offenses (7.3).

The 27-year-old has been excellent in his first season in a Vikings uniform and has the chance for another strong performance in Week 9. Indianapolis has allowed the eighth-most passing yards to opponents this season and the seventh-most yards per pass attempt (6.7). The only thing that could prevent the former first-round pick from having an above-average outing would be Minnesota leaning on the run, as Indy's D is worse against opposing ground attacks than they are through the air.
