The final game of Week 6 is between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Denver Broncos. This is a tale of two teams moving in opposite directions. After some injuries held the Chargers back to start the season, the offense is coming alive. The Broncos have suffered injuries and bad play lately that has them struggling to score points.
This game does not have the hype many thought it would before the season started, but hopefully it ends up more entertaining than the last time we saw the Broncos play on an island game. Here is what I am looking at for my same game parlay today.
DraftKings same game parlay of the day
Austin Ekeler anytime touchdown
Courtland Sutton anytime touchdown
Courtland Sutton over 64.5 receiving yards
Odds: +550, DraftKings Sportsbook
My same game parlay of the day is one that targets the best offensive option on both teams. After a slow start, Austin Ekeler has exploded in recent weeks. He did not score in the first three games and now has five touchdowns in the last two. He caught a TD pass in each of those games, and the other three came on the ground. The Broncos defense is good vs. outside receivers, which opens up Ekeler to do more in the passing game and be a threat on the ground. I do worry that he loses a bit of short-yardage work around the goal line to Joshua Kelley, but he’s been fine punching in touchdowns from further away the last few games. He’s averaging over 18 touches per game, so the volume gives him plenty of opportunities.
Courtland Sutton is averaging over nine targets and 80 yards per game, although the touchdown luck has been evading him. He has scored just once, which puts him behind expectations for someone with his volume and production. The reason I think he can change that has to do with the personnel. Last game, the Broncos attempted their second-most passes and racked up their second-most yards on the season despite not finding the end zone. The loss of Javonte Williams is a major blow to this team, especially when it comes to yards to go on third down.
A lack of success in the early downs running the football is going to continue to put more pressure on Russell Wilson to throw. Sutton benefitted from that last game, tying his season high in targets. This game script sets up as one where the Broncos should be trailing and throwing more. Sutton has been better than Jerry Jeudy, who seems to have some drop issues. That means Sutton is the alpha for an offense that skews pass heavy in a matchup where they are likely to be near their ceiling in attempts. All of that is positive for him racking up yards and finding the end zone.
