We actually have a meaningful Thursday Night Football game this week between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Jets. This game is a pivotal one for the AFC playoff picture. Led by QB Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguars may be the hottest team in the NFL right now. The Jets will be leaning on Zach Wilson to provide just enough sturdy play to let their great defense carry them to a victory.
The odds on this week’s same-game parlay were best on DraftKings, which is why we are using that to place this bet. Here is my parlay for this week’s game.
DraftKings Same Game Parlay of the day
Jaguars Team Total Under 14.5
Trevor Lawrence Under 219.5 Passing Yards
Zach Wilson Over 250 Passing Yards
This same game parlay is all about backing the New York Jets defense. The Jets defense has been one of the best in the league since Week 1, especially against the pass. They are giving up the third-best yards per attempt in the league, at 5.8. They have also given up the second-fewest passing touchdowns at just 13, not even one per game. They are led on the defense side of the ball by their secondary, mainly standout rookie corner Sauce Gardner. You cannot forget about the front seven’s ability to pressure the quarterback in Robert Saleh’s aggressively schemed defense. The Jets are in the top 10 in sacks at 39, almost 3 per game. They have outstanding players at all levels of the defense. This will make it extremely tough for Trevor Lawrence to throw on, let alone score, Thursday in the Meadowlands.
The juicy part of the same-game parlay comes with Zach Wilson. Wilson has had a very up-and-down year, mostly down. He was benched for Mike White but now is thrust into the starting role for the second week in a row with White not being medically cleared to play. Not a great advertisement for Wilson to hit his alt passing yard line of 250-plus, right? Wrong. Wilson looked different last week. He looked more willing to throw the ball around and use his natural talent. That is a very encouraging sign for him and for the Jets. He was able to throw for over 300 yards against the Lions. At this point, Wilson has nothing to lose, and he knows that. I expect him to throw the ball down the field and take chances in this game. The Jaguars defense is not great against the pass, bottom 10 in yards per attempt at 7.1. The Jets should be able to take advantage of the below-average Jaguars secondary with playmakers on the outside, mainly Garrett Wilson. I expect the Wilson-to-Wilson connection to have a big night.
Overall, my idea on this same game parlay is to back the Jets. I think the Jets get a win in this game with solid play from Zach Wilson and excellent defense. The huge emotional win from the Jaguars over the Cowboys right into a short week and massive game for playoff positioning is not easy, and I don’t believe the Jaguars will be able to overcome that.
