So you’ve survived the regular season gauntlet, filled all the holes from your bye weeks, and made the fantasy playoffs. Congratulations! Your hard work and efforts have paid off. But what’s that? You were starting Derek Carr? You were counting on Jonathon Brooks and Bucky Irving to carry you through the final weeks of the season? You blew all your waiver wire budget last week? That’s unfortunate, but don’t give up hope just yet! Let’s scour the waiver wire and find players freely availably in your league for you to take the rest of the way.
Reminder: This list was put together in the lead-in to Week 15, looking forward to the players who could be popular waiver wire targets ahead of Week 16. If you have a roster spot to play with, these are free agent options you could grab early to beat the waiver buzz.
All of these players are below 50% rostership on one of ESPN or Yahoo unless otherwise specified.
Quarterbacks
Jameis Winston, QB, Cleveland Browns (34%/20%)
Reason: High Risk, High Reward
Time Frame: Rest of Season
We’ve been recommending Winston for the quarterback-needy for the past few weeks, and we’re not going to stop now. You are not going to find a passer with more volume freely available – most backups and bottom-of-the-barrel starters are minimized as much as possible, but Winston has only dropped below 40 attempts in one start this season. Winston has topped 20 fantasy points in half of his starts, passing 25 points in two of them, and is near QB1 scoring when he really goes off. Yes, he’s going to throw a terrible interception or three a game; that’s why he’s a backup. But if you just lost Carr or are streaming quarterbacks, you could do far, far worse.
