It can be hard to prep for fantasy football during training camp and the preseason. Things happen every day that might be a huge deal for fantasy … or might be no deal at all.
Sometimes we can figure it out, but sometimes it’s just a matter of paying attention to what happens to know what might matter just so things don’t slip through the cracks.
So each day in this space, we’ll take a trip through the top news and takeaways around the league’s training camps to offer up what fantasy managers need to know as we head through draft season and into the 2023 NFL regular season.
Jerome Ford Suffers Injury in Cleveland
RB Jerome Ford hopped off the field toward the end of practice:
The word is that it’s a hamstring injury — but details on a timeline aren’t known yet. He’s “just a backup,” but the Browns RB depth is already thin behind Nick Chubb — and the Browns thought Ford was important enough to keep out of the Hall of Fame game. Demetric Felton and John Kelly (who did look good in the game) are next up.
Rashid Shaheed Out a Few Weeks
Speedy wideout Rashid Shaheed — a popular sleeper for some (me included) — is expected to miss a few weeks:
He missed practice Monday and will miss a few weeks, per NOF’s source. “That same source also told us that he’ll be ready by Week 1,” per the NOF video.
Shaheed may see a slight dip in ADP — so buy the dip!
Tyquan Thornton Struggling in Patriots Camp
This was WR Tyquan Thornton’s first full practice in a week, and it was apparently a mixed bag. The Patriots’ notebook from 98.5 The Sports Hub noted: “In particular, there were two instances where the pure physicality of defensive backs prevented him from making a play.”
Thornton is sliding down draft boards:
The not-so-hot reporting on his first day back isn’t going to help the matter. DeVante Parker’s new contract plus Thornton’s so-so camp should see this trend continue.
Isiah Pacheco Still in Non-Contact; Clyde Edwards-Helaire Taking First-Team Reps
The Chiefs expect Isiah Pacheco back within the next 1-2 weeks, but it’s Clyde Edwards-Helaire — not the trendy Deneric Prince — taking the first-team reps in his absence.
