Training camps provide our first look into NFL players and teams as we prepare for the upcoming fantasy football season. Information will now begin to flood our social media timelines, leaving us to determine the subsequent fantasy impact. It’s a matter of knowing which information matters, and which should be ignored.

So each day in this space, we’ll take a trip through the top news and takeaways around the league’s training camps to offer up what fantasy managers need to know as we head through draft season and into the 2023 NFL regular season.

Today, let’s review the major news from Thursday.

Jonathan Taylor to Remain on Colts, PUP List

After the Colts couldn’t find a trade partner before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline, Jonathan Taylor will remain with the Colts. However, he will also remain on the PUP list with a back injury, which will sideline him for at least the first four games of the regular season. Taylor missed five games last year — during those contests, Deon Jackson and Zack Moss handled most of the work for the Colts. Moss emerged as the lead running back down the stretch, with Jackson handling most of the pass-catching duties. During the final four weeks of the season, Moss averaged 17.2 rushing attempts, 18.2 touches, 83.5 rushing yards and around 11 PPR points per game. Of course, Moss is currently recovering from a broken arm but could be ready by Week 1 and will reportedly be the lead running back if healthy. If he’s unable to play, Jackson, who started the Colts preseason games, would likely operate as the 1A, with rookie Evan Hull mixing in. We’ll see if the Colts sign a veteran running back before the season starts.

Joe Burrow Returns to Practice

It puts Joe Burrow on track to play against Cleveland in Week 1, which is obviously great to see. After a scary calf injury earlier in the preseason, it appeared as if Burrow could miss a few games, but his return to practice Wednesday is a terrific sign that he’ll be under center for the Bengals in Week 1.
