BREAKING NEWS: Lions sign TE Josh Hill

Share

Not long after releasing Jesse James, the Detroit Lions have reportedly replaced him in the tight end room by signing ex-Saints TE Josh Hill, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

Hill, who turns 31 in May, has been with the Saints since signing there as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He’s scored 15 touchdowns in his eight seasons but only topped 200 receiving yards once, when he had 226 in 2019. The Saints released him earlier this month.

Fantasy slant: You don’t have to worry, T.J. Hockenson is safe. Hill did get occasional “fantasy sleeper” rumblings as the potential heir apparent to Jimmy Graham or Coby Fleener in New Orleans, but that’s never been his reality. He will be the No. 2 tight end in Detroit and serve as a blocker and occasional receiver, but he’s not likely to ever be fantasy relevant himself or affect Hockenson’s production in any meaningful way. — Daniel Kelley
