BREAKING NEWS: Bills cut John Brown

Share

The Buffalo Bills cut WR John Brown free Wednesday, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Brown, who turns 31 in April, has spent the last two years in Buffalo after playing four seasons in Arizona and one in Baltimore. He had 1,060 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2019, but injuries and the arrival of Stefon Diggs held him to 458 and 3 over nine games in 2020. He will hit the free agent market, while the Bills appear set to go into 2021 with Diggs, Cole Beasley and 2020 fourth-round pick Gabriel Davis as the team’s top three receivers.

Fantasy slant: With Brown’s release, the Bills will save $7.9 million against the salary cap. With Brian Daboll still in Buffalo, expect the Bills to continue to pass the ball in 2021. Buffalo was fourth (62%) in neutral-script passing rate last season. This leaves a massive void for Gabriel Davis to fill in his second season. In 2020, Davis filled in admirably for the Bills when Brown or Cole Beasley were sidelined. The Bills could also add to the wide receiver room in the draft in the first (30th overall) or second (61st overall) round.
