Clint Capela Still Out With Groin Strain

Atlanta Hawks center Clint Capela (groin) remains out for Wednesday's matchup against the Charlotte Hornets. Capela will miss his sixth consecutive game, but the Hawks announced on Tuesday that the veteran big man is progressing well in his rehabilitation from a strained left groin and will practice when they return from the All-Star break. Capela has nine days to recover before their next contest, coming on Feb. 23 versus the Toronto Raptors. With fill-in starter Onyeka Okongwu (toe) also sidelined on Wednesday, Atlanta could either shift Jalen Johnson to the five to open up minutes for Bogdan Bogdanovic and De'Andre Hunter, or give traditional center Bruno Fernando a spot start down low. In four career starts, Fernando has averaged just 4.8 points, 5.3 boards, 2.3 assists, and 1.2 blocks in 18.2 minutes, but he gets a Hornets team that places last in defensive efficiency (118.5) in 2023-24.

Ben Simmons Out For Second Half Of Back-To-Back

Brooklyn Nets guard/forward Ben Simmons (knee) is out for Wednesday's meeting with the Boston Celtics. After Simmons collected five points, eight assists, and six boards in 24 minutes during Tuesday's defeat to the Celtics, a left knee effusion will cost him the second leg of a two-game home and away set against Boston. In all likelihood, Simmons will be back on the hardwood for Brooklyn's first outing post-All-Star break on Feb. 22 against the Toronto Raptors. Cameron Johnson (thigh) will return for the Nets on Wednesday following a four-game absence, representing the most likely candidate to replace Simmons in the starting five. The Celts rank first against forwards this season, per DraftKings scoring, so while Johnson is fine to deploy in head-to-head season-long fantasy leagues, he's only a contrarian DFS option in a nightmarish situation.

Bradley Beal Out Against Pistons

Phoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal (hamstring) is out for Wednesday's tilt versus the Detroit Pistons, but head coach Frank Vogel said the team doesn't believe Beal is dealing with a serious injury following Tuesday's win over the Sacramento Kings. Beal injured his left hamstring early in the game and couldn't return, so it's no surprise the Suns will keep him off the floor on the second night of a back-to-back against the 8-45 Pistons. Phoenix returns to action on Feb. 22 for a battle with the Dallas Mavericks, which marks the All-Star guard's next chance to play. Kevin Durant and Devin Booker will dominate usage on Wednesday, with both Royce O'Neale and Eric Gordon being fantasy streaming options against a Pistons group that sits 27th in the NBA in opponent points per game (122.1). Gordon has averaged 14.6 points, 2.9 assists, 2.8 triples, and 2.1 rebounds in 23 games without Beal in 2023-24.

Kristaps Porzingis Off Injury Report, Al Horford Out

Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis (back) is off the team's injury report ahead of Wednesday's contest versus the Brooklyn Nets. A lower back contusion forced Porzingis from Sunday's win over the Miami Heat late, and he missed Tuesday's victory over the Brooklyn Nets, but he'll be available for Boston's final game before the All-Star break. The Celtics will hold out Al Horford (toe) due to a sprained left big toe, but he and Porzingis have alternated appearances on back to-back sets all year long. The Latvian All-Star has been a second-round fantasy value in nine-category leagues during his debut season in Beantown, banking 20.4 points on 52.9% shooting from the field, 7.0 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, and 1.8 threes per game. Make sure Porzingis is in all season-long lineups despite a tough matchup against a Nets squad that ranks ninth in opponent field-goal percentage (46.9%).

Kawhi Leonard Out With Groin Strain

The Los Angeles Clippers say forward Kawhi Leonard (groin) is out for Wednesday's game against the Golden State Warriors. Leonard is dealing with a strained left groin and will miss his first game since late December. Groin strains can be tricky and tend to result in multi-week absences, so while the All-Star break comes at the right time for Leonard and the Clips, there's no guarantee the two-way superstar will be ready to go when play resumes on Feb. 22 in a showdown with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Paul George and James Harden will steer the offense on Wednesday, and Amir Coffey figures to make a spot start in L.A.'s first unit. In seven starting appearances this year, Coffey has averaged only 10.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.7 three-pointers, and 1.3 assists and isn't a great streaming option for fantasy purposes.
