The Atlanta Braves placed left-hander Tyler Matzek (elbow) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 5) with left-elbow inflammation on Tuesday and recalled left-hander Ray Kerr from the minors in a corresponding move. It's not a good sign for a pitcher that missed all of last season following Tommy John surgery. In addition to his injury, the 33-year-old veteran reliever has not been good so far in 2024, allowing 11 earned runs on 16 hits (three home runs) while walking three and striking out 10 in 10 innings out of Atlanta's bullpen. Given the fact that he missed all of last year due to injury, it seems likely that Matzek won't be able to return to the Braves' bullpen when he's eligible to come off the 15-day IL.

San Francisco Giants left-hander Blake Snell (groin) had a successful bullpen session over the weekend and will now throw three innings to live hitters in a batting practice session on Tuesday, according to manager Bob Melvin. Snell's next steps after that are to be determined. The reigning National League Cy Young winner is eligible to come off the injured list on Wednesday, but it remains to be seen if the 31-year-old southpaw will be back with the Giants by then after missing more than two weeks with a Grade 2 groin strain. We'd bet on Snell going on a minor-league rehab assignment first after surrendering 15 earned runs in 11 2/3 innings over his first three starts before getting hurt. Despite the injury and rough start, Snell needs to be rostered in all fantasy formats for his high-strikeout upside.

San Francisco Giants catcher Tom Murphy (knee) is expected to miss the next four to six weeks with a left knee sprain, according to manager Bob Melvin. Murphy suffered the injury in Saturday's 14-3 loss against the Philadelphia Phillies and now will be out for the next couple of weeks after undergoing an MRI on Sunday. The veteran catcher was hitting just .118 with one home run and two RBI in 13 games this season. With Patrick Bailey (concussion) also on the injured list, look for Blake Sabol to get more opportunities behind the plate.

San Francisco Giants right-hander Logan Webb had another rough outing Sunday in the 5-4 loss against the Philadelphia Phillies. Webb threw for four innings on Sunday, allowing five runs, one homer, and six hits, with six strikeouts and two walks. This makes it his second straight game where he was pulled early after allowing multiple runs. The 27-year-old right-handed pitcher recorded two clean starts before the Boston Red Sox series but has taken a turn for the worst. He now owns a 3.50 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and a 36: 12 K: BB across 46 1/3 innings in 2024. Webb's next projected start is against the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday, and they hold a batting average of .210 against right-handed pitchers, giving Webb a perfect bounce-back spot as a streaming option for fantasy managers.

The San Francisco Giants announced Saturday that they have placed catcher Patrick Bailey on the 7-day concussion injured list and have recalled catcher Blake Sabol from Triple-A Sacramento. Bailey was removed from Friday night's game after a foul tip on a 95 mph fastball hit off his mask in the bottom of the first inning. Tom Murphy will be starting in Bailey's place on Saturday night against the Philadelphia Phillies. Murphy is hitting for a .121 average and a .458 OPS. Sabol put up much better numbers in 2023, hitting for a .695 OPS in 344 plate appearances. While both catchers should be expected to split time while Bailey's out, Sabol should be the higher priority for the next week with the expectation that he will be more productive than Murphy. Both should make for good streaming options next week as the Giants open up a series at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday.
