Curt Casali Goes On Paternity List

The San Francisco Giants placed catcher Curt Casali on the paternity list on Tuesday and recalled catcher Jakson Reetz from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. Casali will be away from the team for up to three games this week, meaning he's going to miss the remainder of the series in D.C. against the hosting Washington Nationals. The 35-year-old veteran backstop has been serving as the backup to catcher Patrick Bailey. For the next couple of days, Reetz will handle those duties in San Francisco. Casali doesn't really have any business being rostered in any fantasy leagues as long as he's the backup, as he's currently hitting .197 (12-for-61) in limited playing time with no homers, four RBI and seven runs scored.

Hayden Birdsong Called Up To Start On Tuesday

The San Francisco Giants called up right-handed pitching prospect Hayden Birdsong from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday and optioned right-hander Spencer Bivens to Double-A Richmond after Monday's game in a corresponding move. Birdsong will make another start for the Giants on Tuesday on the road in Washington D.C. against the hosting Nationals. The 22-year-old will be making his seventh big-league start in his rookie season for the Giants and has a shot to stick around through the rest of the season if he continues to pitch well. Through his first 30 1/3 major-league innings, he's held his own to the tune of a 3-0 record, 2.97 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 38:15 K:BB. The Nationals represent a pretty cushy matchup, too, so Birdsong should be considered a nice fantasy streamer in his return on Tuesday. According to MLB Pipeline, Birdsong is the Giants' No. 4 prospect.

Heliot Ramos Back In Giants Lineup

San Francisco Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos (thumb) is starting in center field and is batting second for the Giants on Tuesday against the hosting Washington Nationals and left-hander MacKenzie Gore. Ramos is back in the fold for San Fran after missing three of the last four games due to swelling in his right thumb. Fantasy managers will want to get the 24-year-old first-time All-Star back into their starting lineups, especially since he's hit a cool .423 (30-for-71) with seven of his 15 home runs on the year against left-handed pitchers. Since the All-Star break, the right-handed hitting Puerto Rican outfielder has gone 13-for-56 (.232) with a homer, two doubles, a triple, seven RBI and a run scored in 14 games played. In his first extended chance at the big-league level, Ramos has helped as outfield depth in fantasy leagues in 2024 with 15 homers while hitting .285 (83-for-291).

Camilo Doval Notches 21st Save Of Season Monday

San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval picked up his 21st save of the season in convincing fashion in a 4-1 victory over the Nationals. Doval came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by three and shut the door by striking out the side. The 27-year-old has converted 21 of 25 save opportunities this season and has provided a strong 12.00 K/9 rate. However, his 4.29 ERA is higher than fantasy managers would like to see, and it could be in part due to his bloated 5.57 BB/9 rate. Job security and high-end strikeout upside should keep Doval in the conversation as a higher-end fantasy option, but he will remain in just the mid-hier tier of options if his walk issues continue to plague him.

Tyler Fitzgerald Homers In Second Consecutive Game Monday

San Francisco Giants shortstop/outfielder Tyler Fitzgerald continued to provide plenty of power in Monday's 4-1 win over the Nationals. Fitzgerald went 2-for-4 with a single and a leadoff homer. The 26-year-old got things started for the Giants, jumping on a Patrick Corbin fastball and depositing it in the left-field seats for his 12th long ball of the season. Fitzgerald had an impressive HR streak in July and has now homered in back-to-back games and three of his last four. He is now slashing .314/.373/.650 with 29 runs scored, 24 RBI, and seven stolen bases in just 153 plate appearances. It seems unlikely that he will sustain this rate of high offensive production, but Fitzgerald is providing elite fantasy output right now.
