San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Robbie Ray was dominant in Tuesday's victory versus the Chicago White Sox. The veteran tossed a season-high 6 2/3 innings and allowed three hits, one run, no walks and struck out nine during the contest. It was his best start since returning from injury in late July. Since his return, Ray is 3-2 with a 4.88 ERA and 12.69 K/9 in his first six starts. Ray should continue to shake off the rust and Tuesday's outing was a sign of how good the left-hander can be at full strength, even against a poor White Sox lineup. If he is still available on the waiver wire, now would likely be the last chance to scoop up the veteran for the stretch run as he can help in a big way, especially in the strikeout department. Next up for Ray will be a matchup versus Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday as part of a two-start week that also features a tasty matchup versus the Miami Marlins.

The San Francisco Giants placed catcher Patrick Bailey (oblique) on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain and recalled backstop Jakson Reetz from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. Bailey was expected to start Monday night's series opener against the visiting Chicago White Sox, but he ended up being a late scratch. The Giants sent him to undergo an MRI exam on Tuesday, which revealed the injury. Veteran Curt Casali made his second straight start behind the dish in place of Bailey as a DFS budget option on Tuesday against the last-place White Sox, with Reetz getting called up to act as San Fran's backup catcher. Bailey has gone just 3-for-53 (.057) in the month of August, and Casali should operate as the primary backstop as long as he's sidelined.

San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey (side) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Chicago White Sox. This news isn't shocking considering Bailey was scratched ahead of Monday's contest due to right side tightness. The organization is considering it a minor injury, so for now fantasy managers can list Bailey as day-to-day. In his absence, Curt Casali will do the catching and bat ninth versus right-hander Davis Martin. The 35-year-old collected two hits on Monday, but is hitting .200 with five RBI on the season. Fantasy managers should look elsewhere for help while Bailey is out.

San Francisco Giants infielder Wilmer Flores (knee) will miss the rest of the season, manager Bob Melvin announced back on Aug. 6. Flores had a Tenex procedure on his right knee on Aug. 6 after being put on the injured list on July 25. He had returned from the same injury on July 9. The Giants moved Flores to the 60-day IL on Aug. 16. "He was fighting it all year and unfortunately, we're losing him for the rest of the year, which isn't ideal," Melvin said. It's possible that Flores' knee had been bothering him well before he was shut down for the year and had surgery, as he hit .206/.277/.318 with a .595 OPS, four home runs, 26 RBI and 19 runs scored in 214 at-bats for the Giants this year. It was a disappointment after one of his best offensive showings in 2023, when he hit .284/.355/.509 with 23 home runs, all career-highs. Flores could bounce back with better health next year, but don't count on it.

San Francisco Giants catcher Tom Murphy (knee) has continued his rehab after feeling a pop in his knee after trying to block a wild pitch back on May 4. Murphy started hitting and running progressions on Saturday, and manager Bob Melvin said the hope is that the team will have Murphy back in September. "It's taken him some time," Melvin said. "He doesn't feel it hitting, he doesn't feel it throwing, it's just getting down in the catcher's position that's he's having some trouble with it. He's pretty frustrated with it, too." The 33-year-old was put on the 10-day injured list on May 5, and an MRI exam showed a Grade 1-2 sprain. He was moved to the 60-day IL on May 15 and received a platelet-rich plasma injection on July 30. Murphy hit .118 with a homer in his first 13 games with the Giants and will likely serve as Patrick Bailey's backup when/if he returns to the big-league roster next month.
