San Francisco Giants shortstop prospect Marco Luciano earned MLB.com's Prospect Team of the Week honors after a productive five games for Triple-A Sacramento, including a two-homer game on Saturday. The 22-year-old's hot stretch actually started back on July 2. Since then he's gone 13-for-38 (.342) with four home runs and a 6:7 BB:K in nine games. Luciano was productive in his short time with the Giants earlier this season, going 9-for-24 (.375) with two doubles, a triple, and a 3:5 BB:K in 10 games. MLB's 75th-ranked prospect (Giants No. 3) should get another shot in the majors later this season and is a stash candidate in deeper leagues for managers with an available bench spot.
San Francisco Giants shortstop prospect Marco Luciano went 2-for-5 with a home run on Thursday evening. This was his fourth long ball of the season at Triple-A and second of the month. His two hits also extended his current hitting streak to four games. Luciano struggled at first when he returned to Triple-A on June 11 as he posted a poor .150 AVG in his first 16 games. However, since July 2 he sits with a much-improved .267 AVG. The shortstop is considered one of the top prospects in the San Francisco system and should remain stashed in all keeper and dynasty leagues, as he should return to the major leagues fairly soon.
San Francisco Giants shortstop prospect Marco Luciano started this season on the big-league roster, but it was cut short by a hamstring injury at the end of May. He fully recovered in mid-June but was demoted to Triple-A Sacramento. Since then, through 97 plate appearances, he's slashing .173/.309/.272 with two doubles, two home runs, eight RBI, and 14:30 BB/SO. Though he's the Giants' No. 3 prospect (per MLB.com), he'll almost certainly have to turn things around before rejoining the MLB roster.
San Francisco Giants shortstop prospect Marco Luciano went 1-for-4 with a solo homer for Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday. The 22-year-old hit his second home run in 46 games for Sacramento this season. The Giants top overall prospect had a stint in the majors this year that was cut short due to a hamstring injury. Luciano was just optioned back to Triple-A after being reinstated from the injured list. In 24 big-league at-bats, he had nine hits and an RBI. The talented shortstop is a name to monitor as he gets reps at Triple-A. A call-up back to San Francisco could be in the cards should he prove he is back healthy. Luciano showed in his brief stint that he can have some success in the majors.
San Francisco Giants shortstop Marco Luciano (hamstring) has been placed on the injured list, retroactive to May 30. The 22-year-old sufferd a right hamstring strain during Wednesday's game. At the moment it's unclear how long Luciano is going to be sidelined. In a corresponding move, Casey Schmitt has been recalled from Triple-A Sacramento. The expectation is that Schmitt and Brett Wisely will see increased playing time with Luciano sidelined.
