The New York Yankees placed infielder/outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. (elbow) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 13) with a left-elbow sprain on Wednesday and recalled infielder Oswald Peraza from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move. Chisholm suffered a UCL sprain in his left elbow on Monday night and will now miss at least the next 10 days. However, if the 26-year-old needs surgery, he will end up missing the rest of the 2024 season. The Yankees acquired him from the Miami Marlins at the trade deadline at the end of July, and Chisholm had gone 18-for-57 (.316) with seven homers, 11 RBI and five steals in his 14 games in the Bronx as the primary third baseman. The Yankees will now likely turn to some combination of Oswald Cabrera and DJ LeMahieu at the hot corner, with Peraza serving as a bench bat.

It sounds like the team still plans to do additional testing to determine the severity of the injury. The absence of Chisholm should mean more playing time for DJ LeMahieu and Oswaldo Cabrera at the hot corner. Neither player is going to be as reliable of a fantasy contributor. Cabrera is the better option between the two, as he's hitting .245 with eight home runs and 34 RBI in 86 games this season. Cabrera will bat eighth and play third base versus right-hander Jonathan Cannon on Tuesday.

Television replays showed Chisholm moving his left arm/shoulder in the dugout after scoring a run in the fifth inning. Before being pulled, Chisholm went 2-for-3 with a run scored and his 27th stolen base of the year. The severity of the 26-year-old's injury is unclear, so fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day before checking back on his status on Tuesday. In 14 games in New York since being acquired by the Miami Marlins at the trade deadline, Chisholm has gone 18-for-57 with seven home runs, 11 RBI, five steals and 13 runs scored and has seen his fantasy stock rise considerably in a much more potent lineup. An extended absence for Chisholm would allow DJ LeMahieu to move back to third on a full-time basis.UPDATE: Chisholm left with a left-elbow injury after his slide into home plate. Manager Aaron Boone said X-rays on Chisholm's left elbow came back negative and that he's in good spirits.

In Game 1, the 26-year-old went 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run; in Game 2, he went 2-for-4 again with a home run. The left-handed hitter collected two RBI, scored three times, and stole a base over the two-game set. Since coming over from the Marlins, the former All-Star has a .300-7-11-12-3 line in 12 games. He now sports a .255-20-61-58-25 line on the year with a .331 wOBA and 113 wRC+.

New York Yankees' new third basemen Jazz Chisholm followed up Monday night's multi-homer performance with another one on Tuesday. He went 3-for-6 with a pair of home runs and five RBI in a 7-6 extra-inning victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. It's safe to say Chisholm is enjoying the pinstripes so far by hitting .400 (6-for-15) with four home runs and eight RBI to start his Yankee career. It's a limited sample size, but a change of scenery is what the young lefty needed to get his name to the next level. Overall, Chisholm is slashing .254/.327/.436 with 17 home runs, 58 RBI, 51 runs, and 23 stolen bases over 104 games in 2024. Fantasy managers should continue to roll with Chisholm in all leagues while he's wielding a hot bat.
