New York Yankees pitcher Clarke Schmidt (1-1) allowed three runs on three hits over six innings in his team's 11-5 win over the Seattle Mariners. Schmidt issued two free passes and struck out six to improve to (1-1) on the season. He tossed 62 of 92 pitches for strikes (10 whiffs), bolstering a strong 32% CSW, logging his second consecutive quality start. The 29-year-old pitched well for the most part, but all three hits against him went for extra bases, and two of them left the yard via Jorge Polanco and Julio Rodriguez. While his ERA (4.73) may not have caught up yet, Schmidt is actually pitching pretty well -- affording opposing batters a .211 xBA and enjoying solid quality of contact metrics. Additionally, it's encouraging to see him reach six innings in each of his last two starts. He'll look to keep up the momentum in his next one, which could come later this week against the Yanks' cross-town rivals, the New York Mets.

New York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt (side) will make the start on Tuesday against the visiting San Diego Padres in the Bronx. Schmidt didn't make his last scheduled start on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays due to soreness in his left side, but the injury wasn't serious enough to land him on the injured list. Still, the 29-year-old former first-rounder will be a shaky fantasy option this week against a strong Padres club that will be getting outfielder Jackson Merrill (hamstring) back from the injured list. Schmidt also dealt with rotator-cuff tendinitis in his right shoulder and opened the 2025 campaign on the injured list. He's gotten off to an uneven start, going 0-1 with a 5.52 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in his first three starts (14 2/3 innings) while walking nine and striking out 15. Schmidt had his best outing in his last start on April 27, giving up one earned run with six K's in five innings versus the Toronto Blue Jays.

New York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt (side) has been scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays due to left-side soreness, according to The Athletic's Chris Kirschner. Schmidt said it's minor, though, and expects to make his next start in the Bronx on Tuesday against the visiting San Diego Padres. In his place on Saturday, left-hander Ryan Yarbrough will make the start. The 29-year-old had a promising 2025 campaign but missed three months due to a lat strain, and he also opened the 2025 season on the injured list. The former first-rounder (16th overall) in 2017 out of South Carolina has an intriguing fantasy profile, but injuries continue to get in the way. In his three starts this year, he's been uneven with a 5.52 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 15 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings. Schmidt will be a risky fantasy starter his next time out against the Padres, if he makes the start.
