New York Yankees right-handed reliever Scott Effross (hamstring) started his minor-league rehab assignment at the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Tuesday. It's been a long time coming for Effross, who hasn't pitched in any game action since spring training late in February due to a Grade 2 hamstring strain. The 31-year-old injury-prone reliever is probably going to require a lengthy rehab assignment because of all his time missed, but he should be ready to make his 2025 season debut by late May, barring a setback. Effross missed all of 2023 due to injury and only made three relief appearances in the Bronx last year, allowing two earned runs while walking two and striking out two in 3 1/3 innings. He's unlikely to become a fantasy asset.

New York Yankees right-hander Scott Effross (hamstring) is getting close to facing live hitters in batting practice. It means that Effross is nearing a minor-league rehab assignment after starting the 2025 season on the injured list with a Grade 2 hamstring strain that he suffered in late February during spring training. The 31-year-old veteran reliever began a throwing program in early April. It remains to be seen when Effross will be able to rejoin New York's bullpen, but barring any setbacks, it could be in early May. He appeared in only three games in relief for the Yankees in 2024 and allowed two earned runs with two strikeouts and two walks. Effross has a career 2.89 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, four saves, 82 strikeouts and 18 walks in 74 2/3 major-league innings since debuting with the Chicago Cubs in 2021.

New York Yankees right-handed reliever Scott Effross (hamstring) suffered a setback with his hamstring injury, according to manager Aaron Boone. Effross is now in a holding pattern instead of advancing to face live hitters. Effross suffered a Grade 2 left-hamstring strain in his first outing of spring training back on Feb. 25 and will now miss even more time. The fact that the 31-year-old hasn't even progressed to facing live hitters means we most likely won't see him make his 2025 season debut until sometime in May. Injuries have become a big problem for Effross, as he didn't pitch at all in 2023 and made just three relief appearances for the Yankees in 2024, allowing two earned runs on three hits while walking two and striking out two in 3 1/3 frames. New York probably isn't holding their breathe for him to contribute much in their bullpen.
