Yankees Recall Prospect Jorbit Vivas

The New York Yankees recalled infield prospect Jorbit Vivas from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday and placed outfielder Trent Grisham on the paternity list in a corresponding move. Vivas is not in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the Cleveland Guardians, and he'll most likely just serve as infield depth in the short term until Grisham returns later this week. The 24-year-old Venezuelan will be making his major-league debut whenever he gets into a game. Vivas is considered the team's No. 20 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and he was hitting a strong .343/.432/.493 with a .925 OPS, two home runs, 14 RBI, four stolen bases and 12 runs scored in 20 games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before getting the call-up. The left-handed hitter makes consistent contact and has the ability to hit 15-20 homers at the next level, but he'll likely head back to the minors later this week.

Jorbit Vivas Optioned To Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre

The New York Yankees optioned second base/third base prospect Jorbit Vivas to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday. The 24-year-old was having a nice spring, going 10-for-43 (.435) including a pair of doubles and a stolen base, but he'll have to bide his time in the minors for now. Previously part of the Dodgers organization, the Venezuelan played all of 2024 in the Yankees' farm system, with the bulk of the games (93) played at Triple-A. The batting average wasn't great at .225, but the left-handed hitter hit nine home runs, struck out at a less-than-average rate of 16.6 percent, walked at a high rate of 13.8 percent (.347 OBP), and stole 20 bases. If he can carry his spring momentum into the 2025 season, there's a good chance we'll see him in New York before long, and he's got the tools to be an intriguing waiver wire pickup in deeper leagues whenever that happens.

Jorbit Vivas Promoted To The Major Leagues

New York Yankees second base/third base prospect Jorbit Vivas is being promoted to the major league roster, according to Andy Martino of SNY. In a corresponding move, J.D. Davis will be placed on the injured list with an undisclosed injury. Vivas has performed very well in his second look at Triple-A ball this season. Through 37 total games, the 23-year-old has posted a solid .258/.404/.424 line with five home runs, eight stolen bases, and 19 RBI. However, in his past 13 games, the infielder has been swinging a hot bat with an eye-catching .375/.474/.646 slash line. Vivas is ranked as the 15th-best prospect in the Yankee system on MLB Pipeline. He is worth adding in deeper leagues for now and could become a must-add in all leagues if he can carve out a full-time playing role. With Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu struggling to find consistency at the plate, Vivas may claim one of these positions fairly quickly.UPDATE: Davis was put on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to July 9) with the stomach flu.
