Left-handed reliever Tim Hill and the New York Yankees reached an agreement on a one-year, $2.85 million deal on Tuesday that includes a club option for the 2026 season, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan. Hill's option will be worth $3 million with a $350,000 buyout. The 34-year-old veteran southpaw began the 2024 season with the Chicago White Sox and struggled to a 5.87 ERA and 2.22 WHIP in 27 relief appearances before joining the Yankees for the second half. Hill was much more effective in the Bronx, posting a 2.05 ERA (3.62 FIP) and 1.02 WHIP with an 18:9 K:BB in 44 innings during the regular season. He allowed only one earned run in 10 appearances in the postseason during New York's World Series run. Hill will be back with the Yanks in 2025 as the team's only lefty specialist in front of new closer Devin Williams.

According to Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated, free-agent pitcher Tim Hill has continued to draw interest from the Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Rockies, and Angels. Ragazzo noted there is mutual interest in a potential reunion with the Yankees. Last season, Hill opened the campaign with the White Sox and posted a 5.87 ERA and a 2.22 WHIP across 23 innings of work. However, once he was shipped to the Bronx in the back half of the season, Hill held a strong 2.05 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP across 44 innings of work. In the playoffs, Hill tossed 8 2/3 innings of one-run ball. Despite only generating a poor 10.1% strikeout rate, Hill posted an elite 68.1% ground-ball rate, which helped offset his poor whiff rate. Fantasy managers should expect Hill to operate as a high-leverage option during the 2025 season.

According to Tim Healey of Newsday, the New York Mets are interested in left-handed free-agent pitcher Tim Hill. Hill opened the 2024 season with the White Sox and was eventually shipped to the Bronx. While he held a 5.87 ERA and a 2.22 WHIP across 23 innings on the Southside, he turned the corner with the Yankees as he posted a strong 2.05 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP through 44 innings of work. He was also sharp in the postseason, holding a strong 1.08 ERA. Under the hood, the 34-year-old generated a stellar 1.7% barrel rate and 68.1% ground-ball rate, which were both the highest marks among qualified pitchers last season. Hill would be a nice addition to the Mets bullpen, as they currently have just two southpaws on their depth chart.
