Jose Trevino Homers, Drives In Three In Win Over Cardinals

Cincinnati Reds catcher Jose Trevino had a big game in his team's 9-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday. Trevino went 1-for-3 with a homer and three RBI to help power the Reds to the lopsided victory. The veteran catcher kicked off the scoring in the game with a two-run homer in the second inning and later added a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Trevino is now hitting .324 with three homers, 15 runs, and nine RBI across 68 at-bats for the Reds. The backstop has not been known for his bat over his career, so it is unlikely he will keep his average above .300, but he's hitting .333 with two homers over his past seven games. Trevino is worth streaming in deep leagues during this mini hot streak if you need help at the catcher position.

Jose Trevino Resting Against Cardinals

Cincinnati Reds catcher Jose Trevino will take a seat on the bench for the start of the second game of the series on Tuesday against the division-rival St. Louis Cardinals at Great American Ball Park. Austin Wynns is behind the plate to catch right-hander Brady Singer and will bat ninth against Cardinals right-hander Miles Mikolas. Trevino will get a day to rest after starting each of the last three games. The 32-year-old veteran backstop hit his second home run of the season on Monday night and has exceeded expectations early on in 2025 by going 20-for-62 (.323) with six RBI and 14 runs scored as Cincy's primary catcher with Tyler Stephenson (oblique) on the injured list. Trevino will remain worthwhile in deep two-catcher leagues until Stephenson returns. Wynns has gone 13-for-30 with three homers and 11 RBI as Trevino's backup, so the Reds have gotten plenty of production from their two catchers early on.

Jose Trevino Signs Extension With Cincinnati

The Cincinnati Reds have signed catcher Jose Trevino to an extension. His contract is now worth up to $15 million and will be three years in length. During the offseason, the Reds acquired Trevino from the New York Yankees in exchange for relief pitcher Fernando Cruz and Alex Jackson. Last season in New York, Trevino posted a .215/.288/.354 slash line with eight home runs and one stolen base across 74 contests. He generated a modest .267 xwOBA but was an excellent defender, placing him in the 95th percentile in framing and 88th percentile in Blocks Above Average. Fantasy managers should expect Trevino to typically operate as the No. 2 option behind in the plate. However, the top option, Tyler Stephenson (oblique), will open the season on the 10-day injured list, which will provide Trevino more opportunities early in the campaign.
