The San Diego Union-Tribune's Jeff Sanders reports that San Diego Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth (ribs) could miss more than a month due to a non-displaced fracture in his ribs after he was hit by a pitch in Chicago on April 6. Cronenworth started the next two games against the Athletics but was pulled early in the second game before being placed on the injured list late last week. The 31-year-old probably won't be ready to be activated from the IL when he's eligible this Saturday, April 19. While Crone is sidelined, the light-hitting Jose Iglesias will see most of the action at the keystone, with the lefty-hitting Tyler Wade being another option. Fantasy managers stashing Cronenworth will need to be patient, as he might not be back until early May. He was hitting .257 (9-for-35) with two home runs, five RBI and seven runs scored in his first 12 games in 2025 before injuring his ribs.

The San Diego Padres announced on Friday that they placed infielder Jake Cronenworth (rib) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 9) with a non-displaced right-rib fracture and selected the contract of infielder/outfielder Tyler Wade from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move. The team also moved right-hander Matt Waldron (oblique) to the 60-day injured list. Cronenworth was hit by a pitch in his ribs last Sunday against the Chicago Cubs and looked to be in a lot of pain while grounding out on Tuesday against the Athletics. It remains to be seen how long the 31-year-old will be out, but fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if his absence extends beyond 10 days. In the meantime, the glove-first Jose Iglesias should see most of the playing time at the keystone in San Diego. Cronenworth was hitting .257 (9-for-35) with two homers, two doubles and five RBI through 12 games at the time of his injury.

The San Diego Padres are optimistic that both outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. (shoulder) and infielder Jake Cronenworth (ribs) will return on Friday for the series opener against the division-rival Colorado Rockies at Petco Park. "We're optimistic for Friday," manager Mike Shildt said on Wednesday when asked the status of both players. Tatis and Cronenworth were both pulled early in Tuesday's loss to the Athletics with injuries that are considered to be minor. Tatis tweaked his left shoulder on a swing and initially stayed in the game before being pulled, while Cronenworth dealt with some rib cramping related to a hit-by-pitch in Chicago on Sunday. Both players sat out of Wednesday's win against the A's, but they could be back on Friday after an off day Thursday. That would be great news for a 10-win Padres team that just placed star outfielder Jackson Merrill (hamstring) on the injured list on Wednesday. Check back on Friday.

San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth (ribs) is not in Wednesday's lineup when the Padres conclude a series with the Athletics. Cronenworth exited Tuesday's contest after feeling a pain in his ribs. Fantasy managers should monitor his status leading up to their next game against the Colorado Rockies on Friday evening. In addition, Cronenworth was hit by a pitch on Sunday in this same area, which is related to this injury. Instead, the Padres will give veteran infielder Jose Iglesias the starting nod at the keystone. Iglesias will bat in the six-hole. Through 12 games this season, Cronenworth has held a solid .257/.409/.486 slash line with two doubles and two round-trippers. If Cronenworth were to miss an extended period of time, Iglesias would likely have a clear role in the starting nine.

San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth (rib) was pulled early from Tuesday's 10-4 loss to the Athletics due to rib cramping that he experienced as the result of a contusion from a hit-by-pitch on Sunday in Chicago against the Cubs. Manager Mike Shildt said the team is hopeful it's nothing more and not a serious injury. However, both Cronenworth and outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. (shoulder) will likely be out through Thursday's off day. The 31-year-old Cronenworth injured himself on a groundout in the third inning and didn't even make it out of the box before leaving the game. Fantasy managers will want to take him out of their lineups for Wednesday's series finale against the A's in Sacramento, but it's possible he'll be back by Friday's series opener at Petco Park against the division-rival Colorado Rockies. Expect veteran Jose Iglesias to get the start at second for the Pads on Wednesday.
