Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (shoulder) is with the team for the Fourth of July game on Thursday against the visiting Boston Red Sox and could be activated from the 60-day injured list when he's eligible to start on Sunday versus the Chicago White Sox in an excellent matchup. Despite the great matchup, the 26-year-old will still be a shaky fantasy play in his return from the IL. The Marlins initially were expecting Cabrera to make one more minor-league rehab start, too, but they have an opening in their rotation this Sunday. He'll almost certainly be on a limited pitch count if he makes the start that day. Cabrera has been out since early May with a right-shoulder impingement and has a 4.50 ERA with 15 K's and four walks in 10 innings in three rehab starts. Injuries and control issues have made Cabrera a dice roll in fantasy early in his career.
Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (shoulder) will throw six innings or 80 to 85 pitches in his next minor-league rehab start on Saturday at Triple-A Jacksonville. As long as Cabrera doesn't suffer a setback with his right shoulder this weekend on the farm, it will be his last rehab start before rejoining Miami's big-league starting rotation. The 26-year-old has been out since early May with a right-shoulder impingement. In his three rehab starts, he has a 4.50 ERA with 15 strikeouts and four walks in 10 innings pitched. Fantasy managers in need of pitching help in shallow mixed leagues can probably wait on the Dominican hurler after he posted a 7.17 ERA and 1.59 WHIP with 31 strikeouts and 14 walks in 21 1/2 innings over his first five starts in 2024 before getting hurt. Injuries and poor control have made Cabrera a volatile fantasy asset.
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera (shoulder) made another Triple-A rehab start on Sunday, but he only went three innings and threw 67 pitches. Cabrera was scheduled to go five innings or 80 pitches for Jacksonville on Sunday in what was his third minor-league rehab start amid his recovery from a right shoulder impingement, so he came up a bit short on expectations in terms of the length of his outing. Fantasy managers should expect Cabrera to make one more appearance this weekend before he gets reinstated from the injured list sometime next week if all goes well, with the earliest his activation can come arriving on July 7. The hard-throwing 26-year-old right-hander is a stash candidate for fantasy managers in deep mixed or NL-only leagues for his bat-missing stuff, but a lack of control has always plagued Cabrera in the major leagues.
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera (shoulder) tossed four hitless innings on 60 pitches with seven strikeouts and two walks in his second rehab start for Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday. After throwing 49 pitches across three frames last Wednesday to begin his rehab assignment, Cabrera looked as good as one could have asked for on Tuesday. He was transferred to the 60-day on Sunday, so Cabrera won't be eligible to return from a right shoulder impingement for the last-place Marlins until July 7 at the earliest. Despite abysmal results from Miami's rotation this year, the hard-throwing 26-year-old right-hander is a stash candidate for fantasy managers in deep mixed or AL-only leagues for his tantalizing swing-and-miss stuff.
Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Sunday morning. Cabrera has been sidelined since May 8 with a right shoulder impingement and appeared to be nearing closer to a return. This transfer to the 60-day IL now makes him ineligible for activation for another two weeks, so there must be a reason the Marlins wanted to slow down his progression. We will see if he makes his scheduled rehab start with Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday. The 26-year-old produced a bloated 7.17 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 31:14 K:BB across his first four starts this season. He can provide some value for fantasy managers due to his high strikeout upside, but he needs to prove he is healthy before being added to rosters.
