Oakland Athletics right-handed reliever Austin Adams (forearm) was scheduled to start a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas during the week of Sept. 9, but he was pulled back after experiencing a setback with his right-forearm tendinitis. Adams returned to Oakland on Sept. 12 to be re-evaluated by team doctors but still hadn't been seen as of Monday. At this point, it's unclear if Adams will pitch again for the A's in 2024. With the season winding down and the A's not in playoff contention, it would be a surprise if we saw the 33-year-old veteran back with Oakland before the end of September. If this is it for Adams in 2024, the former eighth-rounder will finish his first year in the Bay Area with a 1-2 record, 3.92 ERA (4.48 FIP), a 1.48 WHIP and a 53:23 K:BB in 41 1/3 innings out of the bullpen for the A's.
Oakland Athletics right-handed reliever Austin Adams (forearm) threw to hitters on Friday and felt good, according to manager Mark Kotsay. If Adams feels good in the coming days, he could begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas. And if he doesn't suffer a setback on what is likely to be a short rehab assignment, Adams could rejoin Oakland's bullpen by sometime next week. The 33-year-old veteran previously threw a bullpen session on Tuesday as he attempts to return from right-forearm tendinitis. When the A's feel he's ready, Adams will return to a late-inning, high-leverage setup role in Oakland's big-league bullpen in front of lights-out closer Mason Miller. Adams is currently 1-2 on the year with a 3.92 ERA (4.49 FIP), a 1.48 WHIP, 53 strikeouts and 23 walks in 41 1/3 innings out of the bullpen.
Oakland Athletics right-handed reliever Austin Adams (forearm) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday and another one on Friday. The team will wait to see how he comes out of each of those sessions before determining whether he'll need to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before coming off the injured list. Adams is attempting to return from right-forearm tendinitis that has kept him out since Aug. 13. Even if the 33-year-old veteran needs a rehab assignment, it will likely be a short one, which will allow him to return to Oakland's bullpen in short order. He's been a valuable setup man for the A's this year with 22 holds, a 3.92 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 53 strikeouts and 23 walks in 41 1/3 innings in his first year in Oakland. Adams is only relevant to fantasy managers in deeper holds leagues when he's healthy.
Oakland Athletics manager Mark Kotsay expects right-hander Austin Adams' (forearm) injury to be a short-term issue. Adams will be shut down from throwing for a few days before the A's set a more clear timeline for his return from the 15-day injured list. His placement on the IL was backdated to Aug. 15. The A's put the 33-year-old reliever on the IL on Sunday with right-forearm tendinitis, but it sounds like the team is hoping he'll be ready to rejoin the major-league bullpen when he's eligible to return. Dany Jimenez (oblique) came off the IL over the weekend to take Adams' spot in the bullpen. In his first year in Oakland, Adams has gone 1-2 with a 3.92 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP and a 53:23 K:BB while hitting a league-high 13 batters in his 41 1/3 innings of work. When he returns, he'll return to a late-inning setup role in front of star closer Mason Miller.
The Oakland Athletics have acquired veteran reliever Austin Adams from the New York Mets in exchange for cash considerations. The 32-year-old was added to the Athletics' 40-man roster and in a corresponding move, Trevor Gott was placed on the 60-day IL after it was determined he would need Tommy John surgery. Adams made 24 appearances for the D-backs last season before an ankle injury ended his season, posting a 5.71 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 17 1/3 IP. He had a nice 12:1 K:BB this spring for the Mets, although it went along with 5.68 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in six and one-third IP. He figures to pitch in middle relief and it's not a needle-mover for fantasy unless he's thrust into a more high-leverage role.
