Toronto Blue Jays infielder Addison Barger (knee) is available off the bench ahead of Friday's game against the Atlanta Braves. This is good news considering Barger has been out of the lineup since Tuesday due to a lingering knee issue. The fact that Barger is available off the bench means that he should be back in the lineup within the next day or so. Barger has struggled throughout most of the season, but he has an .827 OPS and seven home runs since returning to the majors in late July. He figures to see regular at-bats down the stretch of the season once he's back to full health.
Toronto Blue Jays rookie outfielders Joey Loperfido and Addison Barger (knee) are both out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale at Rogers Centre against the Philadelphia Phillies. Davis Schneider is in left field and batting eighth, and catcher Alejandro Kirk is serving as the designated hitter and is batting cleanup against Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sanchez. Loperfido hasn't been afforded regular playing time since joining the team at the trade deadline and has hit just .198 (18-for-91) with two homers and six RBI in his 27 games with Toronto. Barger homered on Tuesday but also left the contest early with a left- knee injury, so he should be considered day-to-day. With the Blue Jays having Thursday off, the hope is that the 24-year-old Barger can return for the series opener on Friday in Atlanta against the Braves.
Toronto Blue Jays rookie third baseman Addison Barger went 2-for-4 in Friday's 5-4 win over the Angels, including a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth. Joey Loperfido had hit a home run just before Barger to knot the score at four apiece. The performance was a bright spot in what has otherwise been a struggle for the 24-year-old in his first season in the big leagues, as this was his first multi-hit game since July 31, having slashed .149/.184/.362 in August in just 47 at-bats. He has collected a hit in four of his last six games though (6-for-25), so perhaps he's building some momentum to finish off the season strong. If he were to get hot, the former sixth-round pick is eligible at 3B, SS, and OF, and is available in nearly all Yahoo leagues.
