Austin Hays To Start Rehab Assignment On Tuesday

The Baltimore Orioles announced on Monday that outfielder Austin Hays (calf) is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie on Tuesday. Hays is working his way back from a left-calf strain that has sidelined him since April 20. Before his injury, the 28-year-old had already started losing playing time in Baltimore's outfield with rookie Colton Cowser impressing early on. But since then, Cowser's bat has cooled off, so it's possible that Hays will get another shot to make some noise for the O's when he's activated from the 10-day injured list, possibly as early as later this week. Unless Hays flips the script and sends Cowser to the bench, he'll mostly be a bench option in AL-only leagues. Before his injury, he had gone 5-for-45 (.111) with no homers and two RBI in 19 games.

Zack Wheeler Dominates In Fourth Straight Win

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler earned his fourth win of the 2024 regular season in Monday's 6-1 victory over the visiting San Francisco Giants, fanning double-digit batters (11) for the third time this year while throwing seven innings of one-run ball on four hits and one walk. After going winless through his first four starts of the campaign, Wheeler has notched four wins in a row and given up a lone run over this hot streak. Overall, the 33-year-old All-Star right-hander owns a 1.64 ERA, and 0.89 WHIP while striking out 63 and walking only 13 over 49 1/3 frames (eight starts) for the Phillies this year. With Philly seemingly riding a six-man rotation at the moment, Wheeler's next turn doesn't line up until next Monday against the division-rival New York Mets at Citi Field. In six appearances against the Mets since 2022, Wheeler shows just a 5.24 ERA and 35:12 K:BB through 34 1/3 innings.

Bryce Harper Launches Three-Run Home Run On Sunday

Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper hit a three-run homer Sunday in the 5-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants. Harper went 1-for-3, with his only hit being the three-run homer off Logan Webb in the third inning. He is hitting .234 (26-for-111) with five doubles, seven homers, 17 runs, 21 RBI, 24 walks, and 31 strikeouts in 31 games. Fantasy managers should continue to roll with Harper, and he will have favorable matchups in Week 7, facing the Giants, Toronto Blue Jays, and ending it against the Miami Marlins.

Alec Bohm Removed From Saturday's Game With Hip Tightness

Philadelphia Phillies infielder Alec Bohm (hip) was removed from Saturday's game against the San Francisco Giants with right hip tightness. The Phillies announced that the move was precautionary. The 27-year-old went 1-for-1 with an RBI, an HBP, and two runs scored before being removed. He extended his hitting streak to 17 games. It's worth noting that the Phillies were up eight runs, and there were rainy conditions before Whit Merrifield replaced Bohm in the bottom of the third inning. He is slashing .364/.435/.579 with four home runs, 32 RBI, 18 runs, and a stolen base over 34 games in 2024. Bohm is considered day-to-day. Merrifield would see an uptick in playing time if Bohm were to miss any games.

Trea Turner Out Six Weeks With Hamstring Strain

The Philadelphia Phillies announced Saturday that shortstop Trea Turner (hamstring) will be put on the 10-day injured list with a left-hamstring strain. The shortstop was quoted as saying he expects to miss six weeks and that it would "be a win" if he returned any earlier than that. Turner was pulled after the bottom of the fourth inning in Friday night's game. Turner had been having a fantastic season, slashing .343/.392/.460 with 10 stolen bases and 27 runs. Edmundo Sosa is starting Saturday night against the San Francisco Giants in Turner's place. Sosa should be expected to be the starter for the next six weeks. Sosa is hitting for an .824 OPS in 21 at-bats this season, above his career norms, and should be on all fantasy managers' radars as a waiver-wire pickup while Turner recovers from injury.
