Jonathan India Remains In Monday's Lineup

Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that infielder Jonathan India (undisclosed) remains in the starting lineup on Monday, serving as the designated hitter and batting leadoff, as planned, against Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby. India suffered an undisclosed injury when he was hit by a ball during batting practice and had to be looked at by a trainer, but apparently it wasn't anything serious since he remains in the lineup. The 27-year-old was set for a utility role for the Reds before the start of the season, but with second-year infielder Matt McLain (oblique) potentially missing most of the year now, India should be a lineup regular in 2024. The former National League Rookie of the Year in 2021 has started off 8-for-33 (.242) with no homers, three RBI and a stolen base in nine games this year and is batting .250 with an RBI in four career at-bats against Ashby.

Daulton Varsho Riding Pine On Monday

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho is not in the team's starting lineup on Monday against the visiting Seattle Mariners. With Varsho on the bench in the series opener, Davis Schneider is getting the start in left field and is batting in the five-hole for the Blue Jays against Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo. Schneider has never faced Castillo in his career in what will be a difficult matchup for the infielder/outfielder. The 27-year-old Varsho's fantasy stock has been falling since his disappointing first year in Toronto in 2023, and losing catcher eligibility hasn't helped his cause at all. Through the first 10 contests of 2024, he's gone 4-for-30 (.133) with no home runs or RBI, four runs scored and eight strikeouts in 34 plate appearances.

Framber Valdez Scratched From Start On Monday

Houston Astros left-hander Framber Valdez has been scratched from his scheduled start on Monday against the Texas Rangers for unknown reasons, according to multiple sources. In a corresponding move, the Astros have called up right-hander Blair Henley, who will make his major-league debut and start against the Rangers. Henley was the team's seventh-round pick in 2019 out of Texas and went 3-6 with a 5.06 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 53 walks and 106 strikeouts in 106 2/3 innings over 25 appearances (17 starts) at Double-A Corpus Christi last year. He had allowed three earned runs with four walks and six K's in five innings in his first start with Triple-A Sugar Land this year. Fantasy managers will be risking a lot by streaming Henley against the World Series champs on Monday. Check back later for more information on why the Astros are holding Valdez back to begin the week.

Mark Canha Getting A Breather Against Pirates

Detroit Tigers outfielder Mark Canha will take a seat on Monday in the series opener against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. With Canha starting on the bench, Matt Vierling will draw into the starting lineup, playing right field and batting sixth against Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller. Vierling hasn't recorded a hit in just two career at-bats versus Keller and has just three hits in 17 at-bats (.176) with a solo home run and four strikeouts in his first six games of the season. The 35-year-old Canha should be back in Detroit's starting lineup on Tuesday after starting his first year in Detroit by going 6-for-28 (.214) with two long balls, four RBI, a stolen base, four runs scored and eight strikeouts in 36 trips to the plate over his first nine games.

Henry Davis, Michael Taylor Sitting On Monday

Pittsburgh Pirates catcher/outfielder Henry Davis and outfielder Michael Taylor will start on the bench on Monday for the series opener against the visiting Detroit Tigers. Joey Bart will do the catching for the Bucs and will hit ninth, while Jack Suwinski is in center field and batting cleanup against Tigers right-hander Reese Olson. This will be Bart's second start in the last three games, and he could see more time behind the plate with Davis starting off his second MLB season just 4-for-30 at the plate. It helps Bart's cause that both Yasmani Grandal (foot) and Jason Delay (knee) are currently on the injured list. This will be Taylor's third straight game starting on the bench. Suwinski is just 6-for-34 (.176) in the early going but will have elevated DFS sleeper appeal in the cleanup spot on Monday.
