Jackson Holliday Hitting Ninth In MLB Debut

Baltimore Orioles infield prospect Jackson Holliday, the top prospect in all of baseball, is starting at second base and batting ninth for the O's in his major-league debut on Wednesday against the Boston Red Sox and right-hander Kutter Crawford. Holliday projects as a shortstop long-term, but for now he'll settle in at the keystone in the majors for Baltimore. Fantasy baseball managers won't be too stoked that the 20-year-old is at the bottom of the lineup, but he can still offer plenty of upside offensively in a stacked Orioles lineup. He was slashing .333/.482/.595 with two home runs, nine RBI and a stolen base in 10 games for Triple-A Norfolk before getting the call to the big leagues and has nothing left to prove in the minors. Holliday should have already been stashed in all fantasy leagues.

Anthony Volpe Jumps Up To Leadoff Spot Wednesday

New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe is starting at the 6 and is in the leadoff spot on Wednesday versus left-hander Ryan Weathers and the visiting Miami Marlins. Volpe hasn't hit higher than sixth or seventh in the batting order to this point in 2024, but he'll flip with second baseman Gleyber Torres in this one (Torres is hitting sixth). The 22-year-old youngster held his own in his rookie campaign in 2023 and has been even better so far in his sophomore season, going 15-for-40 (.375) with three doubles, two home runs, six RBI, three stolen bases and 10 runs scored in the first 11 games of the year to earn a move up to the leadoff spot. Volpe will probably see more time atop the Yankees' batting order if he continues to rake, which would be music to fantasy managers' ears in all formats.

Oscar Colas Recalled From Triple-A

The Chicago White Sox recalled outfielder Oscar Colas from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday after third baseman Yoan Moncada (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list. While Colas isn't in the starting lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Cleveland Guardians, there's a good chance the 25-year-old will see an extended opportunity for regular at-bats moving forward with both Eloy Jimenez (groin) and Luis Robert Jr. (hip) also on the injured list for the White Sox. Fantasy managers in mixed leagues probably won't take notice unless Colas improves on his weak performance in his MLB debut last year, when he slashed a paltry .216/.257/.314 with five home runs, 19 RBI, four steals and 71 strikeouts in 263 plate appearances over 75 games played. Scoop him up in AL-only formats for outfield depth.

Yoan Moncada Lands On Injured List, Expected To Miss 3-6 Months

The Chicago White Sox placed third baseman Yoan Moncada (groin) on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with a left-groin strain, but he's expected to miss three to six months. Outfielder Oscar Colas was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Moncada could end up missing the rest of the season after getting hurt while running to first base in the second inning on Tuesday. It's a huge disappointment for Moncada and the White Sox, especially with outfielders Eloy Jimenez (groin) and Luis Robert Jr. (hip) also on the IL. Moncada had gone 11-for-39 (.282) with three doubles and four runs scored in 11 games this year. Both Lenyn Sosa and Braden Shewmake could see more playing time on the infield with the 28-year-old out for the foreseeable future. Sosa is starting at third base and hitting second against the Guardians on Wednesday.

Logan O'Hoppe, Anthony Rendon Resting Against Rays

Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe, third baseman Anthony Rendon and first baseman Nolan Schanuel are all on the bench on Wednesday versus the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Zack Littell. Matt Thaiss is catching and batting eighth, Miguel Sano is at third base and hitting fifth, and Brandon Drury is at first base and batting in the six-hole for the Halos. Luis Rengifo is also at the keystone and hitting leadoff on Wednesday. Rengifo will gain some DFS appeal in this one while hitting atop the order. The 27-year-old Venezuelan infielder has been the odd-man out on the Angels' infield so far early this year, but he's been good when active, going 8-for-22 (.364) with two doubles, two RBI and two stolen bases in 23 plate appearances.
