Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson went 0-for-2 with a walk in Thursday's Grapefruit League action against the New York Yankees. The former first overall pick is now hitting a putrid .115 with three RBI and a run scored over his first 26 at-bats. The 24-year-old has had an up-and-down career thus far, but he finished strong in 2023 and provided plenty of power with 31 homers and 94 RBI to go along with a .233 batting average. Torkelson has been a popular sleeper this offseason with the expectation that he take another step forward in 2024, but with an ADP of 118, managers should continue to keep an eye on the slugger before making a big commitment that could go either way. Regardless, even if he struggles in the batting average department, the power should be able to help managers.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter went 2-for-3 with two runs, three RBI and a solo home run against the New York Yankees in Grapefruit League action. The homer would be the first of the spring for the slugger. Carpenter has always been known as a big power bat and really came on in the second half of 2023 for the Tigers and fantasy managers. He would finish with a .278 average, 20 homers and 64 RBI in 418 at-bats. Despite his struggles this spring with a .235 batting average, the left-handed slugger should provide good value as a fifth outfielder or depth piece with an ADP of 218.

Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Paul Skenes had two strikeouts in one inning on Thursday against the Orioles in Spring Breakout action. One of those strikeouts was against fellow top prospect, shortstop Jackson Holliday. Skenes, 21, was the first overall pick out of LSU last season, but has shown up to camp as the most popular player on the Pittsburgh Pirates. Although he has had limited action, it has all been impressive and proven why the Pirates took him first overall. Although the right-hander is likely to open in the season in the minor leagues, it shouldn't be long until he is striking out big-league hitters. Skenes should absolutely be rostered in dynasty leagues and managers in redraft leagues should keep a strong eye on the fireballer.

Texas Rangers outfield prospect Wyatt Langford continued his scorching hot spring by going 1-for-4 with a grand slam on Thursday against the Cincinnati Reds in Cactus League action. The 22-year-old has been explosive this spring and now has five homers with 14 RBI and a .361 batting average over 36 at-bats. Langford continues to make a strong case to break camp and the struggles of fellow outfielder, Leodys Taveras only should help his case. The young outfielder currently has an ADP of 170, but that should continue to rise as the season gets closer. With the ability to help across the board and in a talented lineup, Langford is worth reaching for in upcoming drafts.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times is reporting that starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi (shoulder) has returned to the Rays on a minor-league deal. Odorizzi spent 2023 recovering from shoulder surgery and last suited up in 2022 for the Atlanta Braves. The right-hander will return to familiar grounds with the club that he spent five of 11 seasons with. He does own a career 3.99 ERA, but this is merely a depth piece and he can be avoided in all fantasy formats for now.
