Edward Cabrera Exits Early On Sunday

Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera departed his Sunday start before throwing a pitch due to right shoulder tightness. He finished his warmup tosses before trainers came out to evaluate him and he ultimately walked off the field with what the team is calling precautionary reasons. The 25-year-old has yet to allow a run across five Grapefruit League games this spring, striking out five against zero walks in that time. After he worked to a 2.22 ERA across five starts at Triple-A in the 2023 season, Cabrera posted a 4.24 ERA in 22 outings (20 starts) with the Marlins a season ago, punching out a healthy 27.2% of the hitters he faced in that time. More word on his status should be made available in the coming days but Cabrera remains a solid fantasy asset for the 2024 season.

Gavin Williams Scratched On Sunday

Cleveland Guardians right-hander Gavin Williams was scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday after feeling discomfort in his right elbow after throwing weighted balls and will not throw for a couple of days. The 24-year-old had been off to a hot start this spring with a 1.93 ERA and nine strikeouts in just 4 2/3 innings across two Cactus League outings but will be shut down for a brief period of time. Williams debuted with a 3.29 ERA across 16 starts in the 2023 season after he tossed nine starts of 2.93 ERA ball at the Triple-A level. A 2021 first-round pick, Williams has displayed quality strikeout stuff in his brief minor-league tenure and punched out 23.5% of the hitters he faced as a rookie. He remains a rock-solid fantasy asset heading into the 2024 season but fantasy managers will want to keep an eye on his status ahead of Opening Day.

Ryne Stanek Signs With Mariners

The Seattle Mariners have signed free-agent relief pitcher Ryne Stanek on Sunday. The right-hander will receive a one-year $4 million deal. Stanek has bounced around a bit during his career but has been solid wherever he goes. Most notably, Stanek posted a 2.90 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 196/89 K/BB ratio over 173 2/3 innings since 2021 with the Houston Astros. The right-hander had a below-average season in 2023, but he deserves the benefit of the doubt. Stanek should immediately slide into a high-leverage role in Seattle.

George Springer Homers In Win

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer came up clutch during Saturday's win over the Philadelphia Phillies. The right-handed slugger went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run during Saturday's 13-5 beatdown of the Phillies. Springer's homer off left-hander Matt Strahm was his first of the spring. The Jays are hopeful for better things from Springer after a fairly average season in 2023. Springer has already been named the leadoff hitter for this team, which should boost in fantasy value.

Chris Sale Struggles In Third Start

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale was looking excellent on the mound until he faced off against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday. The left-hander was smacked around for three runs in 3 2/3 innings during Saturday's loss. Sale didn't have his best stuff as he allowed four hits and walked one batter during his rough outing. Despite the bad outing, fantasy managers shouldn't be too concerned about Sale. He still holds a 3.24 ERA with 11 strikeouts and a 1.20 WHIP over 8 1/3 innings this spring.
