The Washington Nationals agreed with free-agent outfielder Eddie Rosario on a split contract on Wednesday. The deal could earn Rosario up to $4 million in 2024 with incentives. The deal is pending a physical, according to sources. The 32-year-old veteran outfielder has a good shot of cracking Washington's major-league roster in the midst of their rebuild, and he could be on the strong side of a platoon in the outfield or at designated hitter while facing right-handed pitching. His signing is bad news for both the left-handed-hitting Jesse Winker and right-handed-hitting Stone Garrett, who is coming of a serious leg injury in 2023. Rosario played in 142 games with Atlanta last year and hit .255/.305/.450 with 21 homers and 74 RBI in 516 plate appearances. He'll be an option for outfield depth for his power in deep-mixed and NL-only leagues if he's playing regularly in D.C.

Oakland Athletics right-hander Luis Medina (knee) was diagnosed with a Grade 2 MCL sprain. There is no timetable for his return, but manager Mark Kotsay said Medina definitely won't be ready for the start of the 2024 regular season at the end of March. The 24-year-old left his Cactus League start early on Monday with a right-knee sprain and arrived to the team's clubhouse on crutches on Wednesday. Medina had been competing for a spot in Oakland's Opening Day rotation this spring, but that's obviously out the window now, and he could miss the first month of the season. In his major-league debut in 2023, the Dominican hurler went 3-10 with a 5.42 ERA and 1.51 WHIP with 57 walks and 106 strikeouts in 109 2/3 innings over 23 appearances (17 starts).

Cleveland Guardians catching prospect Bo Naylor (back) is back in the team's Cactus League lineup on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers, starting behind the plate and batting cleanup for the Guardians. It will be the 24-year-old's second spring training game because of back spasms that kept him out for around a week. But he's back now, and Naylor should be ready for Opening Day at the end of the month, barring a setback with his back. The left-handed-hitting Canadian played in 67 games last year and hit .237/.339/.470 with an .809 OPS, 11 homers, 32 RBI and five stolen bases for Cleveland. Naylor is expected to see most of the starts behind the plate for the Guardians in 2024 in his first full MLB season, and his combination of power and speed at the catching position gives him unique upside at a weak position for fantasy managers.

Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that second baseman Jonathan India (foot) is on track to make his spring training debut on Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. India dealt with plantar fasciitis in his left foot last year and was still bothered by it at the start of spring training, so the Reds have been slow-playing him in hopes that he'll be feeling better by Opening Day on March 28. The 27-year-old's fantasy stock heading into 2024 was already down due to the fact that the Reds plan to use Matt McLain as their primary second baseman, assuming he's healthy. It means that India is going to have to bounce around on the infield and in the outfield in order to find consistent playing time in what is now a pretty stacked Reds roster of position players. The former National League Rookie of the Year isn't guaranteed regular playing time this year.

Boston Red Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito (elbow) will have a second opinion on Monday from Dr. Dugas in Alabama. Manager Alex Cora said that surgery is a possibility, but the team will know more next week. Dugas is the same doctor that did Garrett Whitlock's Tommy John surgery. The 29-year-old is dealing with a partially torn UCL and flexor strain in his right elbow and is probably going to be forced to miss all of the 2024 season, especially if he undergoes Tommy John surgery. It's a big blow to Boston's starting rotation before the start of the year. To say the least, fantasy managers should be avoiding Giolito in upcoming fantasy drafts. His 2023 season was a disaster, pitching for three different teams and posting a 4.88 ERA.
