Kenley Jansen Set For Live Batting Practice Session

Boston Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen (lat) is scheduled to throw his first live batting practice session of camp on Wednesday, but it could be postponed due to rain. The Red Sox won't take any chances with the field being wet. Jansen reported right-lat soreness early in camp and was shut down, but it's not expected to take the 36-year-old much time to ramp up in spring training, so he's not being ruled out for Opening Day just yet. If he suffers a setback or just isn't ready to go later this month for the start of the regular season, expect Chris Martin to get the first shot at save chances at the back of Boston's bullpen. Jansen is the active leader in saves and had 29 of them with Boston last year, but he's not getting any younger and is a pretty big injury risk as a fantasy relief pitcher in 2024.

Adolis Garcia Making Cactus League Debut Wednesday

Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia (oblique) is making his Cactus League debut on Wednesday versus the Colorado Rockies, serving as the designated hitter and batting third in the lineup. Garcia suffered a moderate left-oblique strain during the World Series last fall, and the Rangers chose not to take any chances with the 31-year-old outfielder early in spring training. Garcia is ready to roll now and will be ready for Opening Day on March 28. After hitting a career-high 39 home runs, driving in 107 and stealing nine bases in 148 regular-season games last year in his second All-Star campaign, he's going to be very popular in fantasy drafts as a low-end No. 1 outfielder/high-end No. 2 while hitting in the heart of a strong Rangers batting order in 2024.

Ryan McMahon Enjoying A Strong Start To Spring

Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon has been off to a nice start in the Cactus League with a .429 batting average to go along with four runs, one homer and two RBI. McMahon has been one of the few staples for the Rockies over the past few seasons and has hit a minimum of 20 homers, while playing 150 or more games during the past three seasons. Playing half of his games at Coors Field helps as his average is much higher there than on the road, but the power numbers have translated outside of the Rocky Mountains. McMahon isn't the sexiest name, but he's consistent and makes for a safe late-round option in upcoming drafts.

Mitch Haniger Continues Hot Spring

Seattle Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger has been off to a hot start in his second go around with the club. On Tuesday, Haniger went 1-for-2 with a walk and solo home run. In his return to the Mariners, the 33-year-old has already hit two homers with three RBI over just eight at-bats. The veteran is slated to start in the outfield for Seattle, but despite his potential for power, managers need to temper their expectations as he is one of the more injury prone players in the league. In redraft league, Haniger is a worth a late-round flier that can pay off with health.

Esteury Ruiz Yet To Swipe Bag In Spring

Oakland Athletics outfielder Esteury Ruiz swiped 67 bags in 2023, but has yet to attempt a steal over his first eight Cactus League contests. Despite that, he's hitting a healthy .294 with one homer, one RBI and three runs. Ruiz is one of the few attractive A's players from a fantasy perspective and managers shouldn't be concerned with his lack of base stealing with him likely keeping him legs ready for the games that matter most. Ruiz is entrenched as an everyday player for Oakland and his steals alone make him worth drafting in all formats with anything else being a bonus.
