George Kirby Gets Hit Around in Third Rehab Start

Seattle Mariners right-hander George Kirby (shoulder) made his third minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Tacoma on Friday night and allowed four earned runs on 10 hits (two home runs) while walking none and striking out four in four innings pitched. While the results weren't all that great for Kirby in this one, the primary takeaway is that he didn't suffer any setbacks with his shoulder and hit 97.5 mph with his four-seam fastball. The 27-year-old hasn't been a big strikeout guy to this point of his career, but he's useful in fantasy for his pinpoint control, and he has yet to walk any of the 21 batters he's faced so far on his rehab assignment. Kirby is getting closer to making his 2025 season debut, but he only threw 64 pitches on Friday night, so it would make sense for the M's to give him one more rehab start. If Kirby is available on your league's waiver wire, pick him up now.

Ronald Acuna Jr. Goes Hitless in Second Rehab Game at Triple-A

Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. appeared in his second minor-league rehab game with Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday night and went 0-for-2 at the plate with two walks and two runs scored while playing right field and hitting leadoff for the Stripers. Acuna homered in his first rehab game in the rookie-level Florida Complex League and had two hits (one double) in his first contest with Gwinnett on Thursday. The 27-year-old played six innings in right field on Friday as he recovers from a torn left ACL last year. The Braves still have no official timetable for Acuna's return to the big leagues, but they aren't going to rush him back until he's ready to play full games in right field on a daily basis, so it could be at least another week or two. Fantasy managers need to remain patient on the former MVP, but he could once again be a difference-maker when he makes his 2025 debut.

Junior Caminero Sitting on Saturday

Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero is not in Saturday's lineup when they continue a series against the Miami Marlins. Caminero has been in the starting nine in each of the past 10 games. Over this stretch, the former top prospect has posted a .243/.268/.405 slash line with two home runs and seven RBI. Instead, Jose Caballero will get the nod at the hot corner and is set to bat in the six-hole. Fantasy managers should expect Caminero to return to the lineup on Sunday. Through 42 games this season, Caminero has posted a .241/.272/.426 slash line with eight home runs and two stolen bases. He has generated an elite 50.8% hard-hit rate with a .460 xSLG, which suggests he should see positive regression. The Rays are a viable target in DFS facing Sandy Alcantara, who enters this game holding an 8.10 ERA.

Adrian Del Castillo Begins Throwing Program

Arizona Diamondbacks catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo (shoulder) recently began his throwing program. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the coming weeks. The backstop is currently considered the No. 6 prospect in the Arizona system. Del Castillo made his MLB debut last season and performed quite well, posting a .313/.368/.526 slash line across 25 games. He went deep four times, added five doubles, and tallied 19 RBI. Before reaching the majors, Del Castillo spent his 2024 season with the Reno Aces, where he performed at an elite level, posting a .312/.399/.603 slash line across 105 games. When Del Castillo is cleared to return to action, he should push for an early return to the big leagues.

Tyler Gilbert Placed on 15-Day Injured List

Chicago White Sox left-handed pitcher Tyler Gilbert (knee) was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a sprained MCL in his left knee. In a corresponding move, the White Sox have promoted left-handed pitcher Jared Shuster from Triple-A Charlotte. Through 13 games this season, Gilbert has been deployed both as an opener and out of the bullpen. In 13 innings of work, the southpaw has struck out 16 batters and posted a 4.85 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP. However, under the hood, Gilbert has generated an impressive 3.62 xERA and a strong .206 xBA, which are both well above the average marks. While Gilbert remains sidelined, fantasy managers should expect Shuster to serve in a similar middle-relief role in the bullpen. Fantasy managers should continue to expect Jordan Leasure and Cam Booser to see most of the high-leverage opportunities.
