Red Sox Owner Meets With Rafael Devers

Boston Red Sox principal owner John Henry flew to Kansas City to meet with designated hitter Rafael Devers in the wake of Devers publicly chastising team brass on Thursday, according to The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and CEO Sam Kennedy also traveled to KC, where the Red Sox are in town for a three-game series this weekend. Henry was the only one to talk directly with Devers and said it was an "honest and candid exchange." Devers was frustrated that Breslow recently asked him about moving to first base following Triston Casas' (knee) season-ending injury. It comes after the club asked Devers to move from third base to DH after Boston signed Alex Bregman in the offseason, which Devers bregrudgingly accepted. While Devers started out slow at the plate this year, he's hitting .367 (11-for-30) with a homer, seven RBI and a steal in eight games so far in the month of May.

Brad Keller To Start Bullpen Game For Cubs On Saturday

Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell said that right-hander Brad Keller will serve as the opener in what will be a bullpen game on Saturday against the New York Mets at Citi Field. Counsell would not confirm whether right-handed pitching prospect Cade Horton will follow Keller as the bulk reliever. Keller probably won't last more than an inning or two in this one, so he's not a realistic fantasy streamer against a tough lineup on the road. The 29-year-old has appeared out of Chicago's bullpen 15 times so far this year and has a 3.78 ERA (2.21 FIP) and 1.26 WHIP with 18 strikeouts and six walks in 16 2/3 total innings pitched. Keller has gone two innings in relief just twice for the Cubs, including his first appearance of the year back on March 28. If Horton comes into the game after Keller exits, it will be for his major-league debut.

Patrick Corbin Has Been Outstanding Of Late

Although he picked up the loss in a 2-1 game in Friday's series opener against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park, Texas Rangers left-hander Patrick Corbin continued to pitch well by giving up just two runs on three hits while walking four and striking out three in seven innings for a quality start. Corbin has been excellent in his last five starts, giving up no more than two runs in any of his starts while posting a 2.60 ERA and striking out 20 with 10 walks in 27 2/3 innings. The 35-year-old was outdueled by last year's American League Cy Young winner, Tarik Skubal, who had a perfect game going into the sixth frame. Although Corbin has been pitching well, Friday was only the first time he's gone seven innings, and it was his first quality start of the season. Overall, he has a 3.15 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 20:12 K:BB in 31 2/3 frames. Corbin's lack of swing-and-miss stuff makes him volatile on a start-to-start basis.

Corey Seager Dealing With Hamstring Injury

MLB.com's Steve Kornacki writes that Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (hamstring) was being rested for the second straight day in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers in the series opener due to a right-hamstring injury. Seager has already been on the 10-day injured list already this season with a hamstring ailment, but it's unclear if this new injury is related. Even if it isn't, the 31-year-old is in danger of heading back to the IL unless he's able to return to the starting lineup soon. Fantasy managers will want to check back to see if the two-time World Series MVP is playing in Game 2 of the series in Motown on Saturday. If Seager is out again or goes on the IL again, utility man Josh Smith would see most of the starts at the 6 for the Rangers. In 25 games in 2025, Seager has hit .281 (27-for-96) with four homers, three doubles, nine RBI and 12 runs scored for Texas.

Jake Fraley Could Be Placed On 10-Day Injured List

The Cincinnati Reds could place outfielder Jake Fraley (calf) on the 10-day injured list. Fraley was held out of action earlier in the week but was slated to return to the lineup on Friday. However, the outfielder was a late scratch due to this lingering calf injury. Following the game, manager Terry Francona noted an IL stint could be possible. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status over the weekend. If Fraley remains sidelined, the team will likely shift him to the injured list. Before his injury, Fraley was having a slow start to the young season, holding a .205/.319/.359 slash line with three doubles and three home runs. While he remains sidelined, fantasy managers should expect Will Benson, Rece Hinds, or the newly-acquired Connor Joe to cover right field.
