Athletics outfield prospect Henry Bolte snapped his skid on Thursday as he went 2-for-4 with a home run and a stolen base. Entering Thursday, Bolte carried an underwhelming .100/.182/.100 line over his last three contests. However, prior to this minor slump, Bolte began the season riding an eight-game hitting streak. During this hot start, the former second-round selection held a stellar .379/.455/.517 line with one double and one long ball. Last summer, the 21-year-old began the campaign with High-A before getting the call to Double-A Midland. During his first taste of Double-A, Bolte posted a solid .252/.332/.396 line with four home runs across 54 games. Given his strong start to the 2025 campaign, Bolte should be in the mix for an early Triple-A debut.

The Chicago Cubs have recalled starting pitcher Jordan Wicks from Triple-A Iowa. MLB Network's Taylor McGregor reported the news. The 25-year-old hadn't been impressive for the Iowa Cubs -- allowing five runs over his first two starts -- prompting the organization to move him to the pen. Wicks responded well, firing three perfect innings over his ensuing three appearances. He's set to work in a middle-relief role for the team. The former first-round pick has been solid throughout his minor league career, but hasn't worked out yet in the majors. The move to the bullpen may have unlocked something for Wicks, and it's possible he sticks there for the organization. However, it's unclear if he'll regain his spot in the rotation.

The Colorado Rockies have placed outfielder Brenton Doyle (quad) on the bereavement list, and he'll miss the next 3-to-7 games. The former fourth-round pick had previously been out of the team's lineup due to a quad injury, missing six games. However, he did come off the bench Wednesday as a pinch-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It's unfortunate news for Doyle, as he's started off 2025 hot at the dish -- batting a strong .315 (17-for-54) with three home runs, 12 RBI, and seven runs scored. The Rockies have a day off on Monday, so the Virginia native may rejoin the team then, barring he's completely over his quadricep injury.

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jake McCarthy (hand) will return to the team's lineup on Friday for their road outing against the Chicago Cubs. The Virginia product had been on the shelf since Sunday, when he took a pitch off the hand in Arizona's win over the Milwaukee Brewers. McCarthy has had a tough go to start 2025 -- batting an abysmal .091 (3-for-33) with one double, one run scored, three RBI, and a 5:3 K:BB ratio. Despite dropping his strikeout rate for the fifth straight season and raising his walk percentage from 2024, the 27-year-old holds a ghastly .184 OBP with a lone theft. McCarthy's leash may be shortening, particularly with teammate Alek Thomas being a far more efficient bat at the start of the year.

New York Yankees reliever Devin Williams pitched a clean inning on Thursday to earn a save in his team's 6-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. The 30-year-old did not allow a hit or free pass and struck out none. It's Williams' fourth save of the season, as he's now down to an inflated 5.14 ERA and 1.86 WHIP with eight strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Though he's been a little shaky this season, the former second-round pick has pitched three straight hitless innings -- collecting three saves over the Yankees' prior four outings. It's mildly concerning that his strikeout rate has dropped nearly 20 points from a season ago, while his walk rate is elevated. However, Williams hasn't compiled an ERA higher than 2.50 since 2021, so he's likely to turn it around soon.
