Colorado Rockies catching prospect Drew Romo (finger) is dealing with a finger injury. Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reported that the 23-year-old suffered this injury while sliding into a base during a minor league contest last week. Romo was left off the Opening Day Triple-A roster as a result. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he may not be sidelined for long. He entered camp as a favorite to make the MLB roster but eventually lost his spot to Hunter Goodman. In camp, Romo posted an underwhelming .118/.211/.176 slash line with just one extra-base hit and a 1:4 BB:K. Last summer, Romo made his MLB debut and tallied nine hits with three doubles across his first 16 games. He should contend for an early return to the big leagues if he performs well at Triple-A.

Baltimore Orioles right-handed pitcher Roansy Contreras cleared waivers and will begin his campaign with Triple-A Norfolk. Last season, Contreras spent time with several clubs. He logged 68 1/3 cumulative innings at the major league level. Across this stint, Contreras posted a 4.35 ERA with a 1.38 WHIP. He tallied 56 punchouts and served up walks at a high 10.4 percent rate. He also generated a poor 4.94 xERA and a .260 xBA, which placed him in the 12th and 20th percentile, respectively. In spring training, Contreras posted a 6.75 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP across eight innings of work. Fantasy managers should expect Contreras to open the season in the starting rotation in Norfolk. He could eventually return to the majors when Baltimore needs additional pitching depth.

Athletics right-handed pitcher Luis Severino started his 2025 regular season on a high note as he went toe-to-toe with Seattle Mariner's ace Logan Gilbert. Severino struck out six batters in six innings pitched, allowed three hits, gave up four walks, and didn't allow a run. The only concerning aspect of his night was his four walks and 57 percent strike percentage. He was able to work around the walks on Thursday, but he will need to clean that up moving forward. Nonetheless, his six scoreless innings resulted in a no-decision, as the Athletics bullpen coughed up the lead in the eighth inning. Fantasy Managers should be encouraged by Severino's first outing with his new team. Next up for the right-handed pitcher is a home matchup with the Chicago Cubs next week.

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jerar Encarnacion (hand) is set to undergo surgery on his fractured left hand on Friday. He suffered this injury during spring training. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as the team will likely provide a definitive timetable following the operation. Encarnacion was in a good position to make the Opening Day roster and potentially have an everyday spot in the starting nine. Last season, Encarnacion appeared in a career-high 35 games and posted a .248/.277/.425 slash line with five doubles and five home runs. Across this short stint, he generated an elite .348 xwOBA with a .501 xSLG and a 58.8 percent hard-hit rate. While he is sidelined, Wilmer Flores will likely continue to serve as the everyday DH in San Francisco.

Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas had an excellent game on Thursday to kick off the 2025 regular season. He went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored Thursday against the Los Angeles Angels. What is most encouraging for fantasy managers is that he was slotted in the leadoff spot in the batting order and had a successful audition in this contest, which will help keep him in that role moving forward. With Luis Robert Jr. batting behind him in the two spot in the order, Vargas will have plenty of opportunities to score runs should he stay at the top of the order. The White Sox are off on Friday, but Vargas will look to stay hot in this series once they are back in action to finish the three-game series with the Angels on Saturday and Sunday.
