Freddy Peralta Fans Eight In First Start Of The Season

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta got his season off to a strong start despite a tough environment on the road at Yankee Stadium. Peralta had eight strikeouts in five innings while giving up four hits and two earned runs. Both runs he allowed were on solo home runs from Austin Wells and Anthony Volpe in the first two innings. The 28-year-old took the loss even though he kept his team in the game and departed with the score just 2-1. He only worked five innings since his pitch count was at 93, so he'll need to improve his efficiency to work deeper into games to be an elite fantasy option. His strikeouts were encouraging, though, and he'll look to build on his momentum in his next start, which lines up to be next week at home against the Royals.

Miguel Amaya Picks Up Five RBI Against Arizona

Chicago Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya drove in five runs in the Cubs' first win of the season on Thursday night, going 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles. He had a three-run double in the fifth inning and a two-run double in the ninth inning, and his five RBI were exactly half of the team's 10-run total as their offense woke up after struggling in the Tokyo Series. Amaya is 3-for-8 (.375) in his two games this season and is expected to split work behind the plate with Carson Kelly. If he hits like this, he could get the majority of the work and emerge as a strong option in NL-only leagues. He hit .271 with a .328 wOBA after the All-Star break last season and will look to continue to emerge as a fantasy option behind the plate as the season goes on.

Max Muncy Quiet In MLB Debut

Athletics second base prospect Max Muncy got the starting nod on Opening Day but went 0-for-3 at the plate. Muncy was able to earn a spot on the roster given his strong play in camp and due to Zack Gelof (wrist) opening the season on the IL. In Thursday's contest, Muncy struck out twice. In spring training, the 22-year-old posted a .282/.383/.385 slash line with a 6:11 BB:K. Last summer, the former 25th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft spent most of his time at the Triple-A level. Across 50 contests in Las Vegas, Muncy posted an impressive .277/.374/.491 slash line with 11 doubles, eight long balls, and four stolen bases. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his development as he could become the No. 1 second baseman while Gelof is sidelined. Luis Urias and Max Schuemann could also compete for starts.

Ian Happ Smashes A Home Run On Thursday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ delivered two big hits in Thursday night's 10-6 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Happ went 2-for-5 with a double and a home run. He also scored two runs, had three RBI, and a walk. The whole Cubs offense got going in this one after not producing much in their first two regular-season games in Tokyo, Japan. As expected, Happ was batting in the leadoff position, where he was expected to be throughout spring training. Happ's switch-hitting ability should keep him at the top of the order against right-handed and left-handed pitchers. Kyle Tucker is batting behind him, so he should see more pitches to hit and score more runs than in past seasons with the Cubs. Happ is off to a good start to the season, going 4-for-12 in his first three games. He will look to keep the momentum going throughout the weekend in Arizona.

Jacob Wilson Tallies Hit In Season Opener

Athletics shortstop prospect Jacob Wilson went 1-for-3 with a single on Opening Day. Wilson got the starting nod at shortstop and batted in the nine-hole. He hit a single in the third frame off Seattle ace Logan Gilbert. Wilson made his MLB debut last summer but only appeared in 25 games before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury. During his brief taste of the majors, the former sixth overall pick posted a .250/.314/.315 slash line. He generated a strong .266 xBA while holding a strong 9.7 percent strikeout rate. In the minor leagues, Wilson flashed elite contact skills. Across 53 games last season, split between Double and Triple-A, Wilson posted a .433/.473/.668 slash line with a 14:15 BB:K. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should monitor his progression as he could become a viable middle infielder who could significantly improve your batting average output.
